@Orchid I can't VC on weekdays, but I'll listen in

Be careful about using human feces. Most feces is fine, as contamination would require diseases crossing a species barrier. Human feces doesn't have that advantage, so it can spread disease pretty quickly

If you want to use human feces, put it in a compost bin with food waste and some worms

2017-09-21 01:24:43 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Give it multiple months to process

If you want to grow stuff inside, keep an aquarium. You can use the water from it to grow stuff in a bed of gravel. The fish fertilize the crop, and the crop filters the water

2017-09-21 01:27:58 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Start with herbs

2017-09-21 01:28:09 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Cilantro, chives

2017-09-21 01:28:23 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

And a small aquarium with some goldfish or koi

2017-09-21 01:29:25 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Just a small Tupperware container will work fine

2017-09-21 01:29:42 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

You'll want some sitting water just below the level of the gravel

2017-09-21 01:30:33 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

It's called aquaponics farming

2017-09-21 01:30:49 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

It would. The appeal of the fish tank is that its cleaner for inside

2017-09-21 01:31:03 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

But a little box with soil would work fine too

2017-09-21 01:31:43 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

One problem with the soil however- you have to make sure it stays fertile

2017-09-21 01:32:21 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

That part I'm not sure about

2017-09-21 01:32:55 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

I just have a few worms and food waste

2017-09-21 01:33:06 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

It goes a long way for keeping it fertile

2017-09-21 01:34:46 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

If you keep the food buried, the smell isn't very noticeable. But I might just not notice it anymore

2017-09-21 01:35:17 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

You can just buy fertilizer for this sort of thing at Lowes

2017-09-21 01:36:17 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Yeah

2017-09-21 01:37:16 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

I usually get stuff for my diy projects from Home Depot and Lowes. Anything they don't have I just go to amazon for

2017-09-21 01:38:16 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Home Depot sells little bags with seeds in them

2017-09-21 01:38:45 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

Lowes probably does too

2017-09-21 05:00:05 UTC [Cascade Front #general]

2017-09-22 00:35:38 UTC [Cascade Front #homesteading-general]

It'd be good for making water filters

Stop being disabled then

2017-10-02 00:53:19 UTC [Cascade Front #general]

2017-10-02 00:54:34 UTC [Cascade Front #general]
