i know fertilizer derived from human feces is used in the US, however its only allowed for growing cattle feed and other things not directly consumed by humans

2017-09-21 01:24:15 UTC

compost, okay

2017-09-21 01:24:31 UTC

If you want to use human feces, put it in a compost bin with food waste and some worms

2017-09-21 01:24:43 UTC

Give it multiple months to process

2017-09-21 01:24:51 UTC

It sucks living in an apartment for all of this ): can't grow much of anything

2017-09-21 01:25:26 UTC

*Aha*

2017-09-21 01:25:52 UTC

Aha?

2017-09-21 01:25:59 UTC

Right channel. ๐Ÿ˜

2017-09-21 01:26:05 UTC

Aha

2017-09-21 01:26:48 UTC

If you want to grow stuff inside, keep an aquarium. You can use the water from it to grow stuff in a bed of gravel. The fish fertilize the crop, and the crop filters the water

2017-09-21 01:27:41 UTC

What type of stuff would you suggest growing? I only have a studio apartment unfortunately

2017-09-21 01:27:58 UTC

Start with herbs

2017-09-21 01:28:09 UTC

Cilantro, chives

2017-09-21 01:28:23 UTC

And a small aquarium with some goldfish or koi

2017-09-21 01:28:58 UTC

is there any vegetables that would grow well in places like indiana?

2017-09-21 01:29:00 UTC

How would you suggest making the gravel pit? Like what sort of frame?

2017-09-21 01:29:08 UTC

I've got carpet so it can't be on the floor

2017-09-21 01:29:25 UTC

Just a small Tupperware container will work fine

2017-09-21 01:29:42 UTC

You'll want some sitting water just below the level of the gravel

2017-09-21 01:30:23 UTC

Would dirt/soil work as well, as opposed to the fish tank?

2017-09-21 01:30:33 UTC

It's called aquaponics farming

2017-09-21 01:30:49 UTC

It would. The appeal of the fish tank is that its cleaner for inside

2017-09-21 01:31:03 UTC

But a little box with soil would work fine too

2017-09-21 01:31:30 UTC

Alright! Tomorrow I'll go the store and look around a bit and see what I can find. I'll keep you all updated

2017-09-21 01:31:43 UTC

One problem with the soil however- you have to make sure it stays fertile

2017-09-21 01:32:04 UTC

How would you test for that?

2017-09-21 01:32:21 UTC

That part I'm not sure about

2017-09-21 01:32:42 UTC

Well, what makes soul fertile?

2017-09-21 01:32:50 UTC

nutrients in the soil

2017-09-21 01:32:52 UTC

nitrates

2017-09-21 01:32:54 UTC

all kinds of stuff

2017-09-21 01:32:55 UTC

I just have a few worms and food waste

2017-09-21 01:33:06 UTC

It goes a long way for keeping it fertile

2017-09-21 01:33:42 UTC

Hrmm, rotting food and worms inside an apartment don't sound like the smartest idea...

2017-09-21 01:33:54 UTC

At least if I don't want to have to keep my window open 24/7

2017-09-21 01:34:46 UTC

If you keep the food buried, the smell isn't very noticeable. But I might just not notice it anymore

2017-09-21 01:35:17 UTC

You can just buy fertilizer for this sort of thing at Lowes

2017-09-21 01:36:02 UTC

True. Would Home Depot or Lowes be a good place to start looking for this kind of stuff?

2017-09-21 01:36:13 UTC

i'm gonna see if i can try and build a shed or something as a summer project

2017-09-21 01:36:17 UTC

Yeah

2017-09-21 01:36:18 UTC

to store fertilizer in

2017-09-21 01:36:23 UTC

and general

2017-09-21 01:36:25 UTC

farming supplies

2017-09-21 01:37:16 UTC

I usually get stuff for my diy projects from Home Depot and Lowes. Anything they don't have I just go to amazon for

2017-09-21 01:37:59 UTC

Where would you suggest looking for Herbs to grow?

2017-09-21 01:38:16 UTC

Home Depot sells little bags with seeds in them

2017-09-21 01:38:45 UTC

Lowes probably does too

2017-09-21 01:39:42 UTC

Alright, I'll go looking tomorrow. Thanks Bradley!

2017-09-21 01:41:14 UTC

I'm thinking about doing more peas, but a lot of potatoes next year ๐Ÿ˜„

2017-09-21 01:41:21 UTC

Maybe sweet potatoes ๐Ÿค”

2017-09-21 01:42:14 UTC

i fucking

2017-09-21 01:42:16 UTC

love potatoes

2017-09-21 01:42:26 UTC

Taters are neat ๐Ÿ˜„

2017-09-21 01:42:35 UTC

I love making hash browns

2017-09-21 01:42:49 UTC

Oho, noooow I know what to make for lunch tommorow!

2017-09-21 01:43:03 UTC

I just made sandwiches for lunch today, but I think we have some potatoes in the fridge ๐Ÿ‘€

2017-09-21 01:43:05 UTC

i might try my hand at homemade potato pancakes

2017-09-21 01:43:09 UTC

once i grow some potatoes

2017-09-21 01:43:11 UTC

Sounds spicy

2017-09-21 01:43:22 UTC

*Very spicy* ๐Ÿค”

2017-09-21 01:43:38 UTC

I might try to make pancakes, or bread, with my quitch-flour ๐Ÿ˜„

2017-09-21 01:43:45 UTC

Once I get around to actually turning it into flour

2017-09-21 01:44:34 UTC

awesome

2017-09-21 01:44:46 UTC

i've always been looking for motivation

2017-09-21 01:44:50 UTC

because i barely have any

2017-09-21 01:44:56 UTC

but i feel like i've finally found something

2017-09-21 01:44:59 UTC

with this and /esg/

2017-09-21 01:45:02 UTC

i've found my calling

2017-09-21 01:45:24 UTC

Very nice! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2017-09-21 01:46:03 UTC

I don't really know about my motivation, it's something like "If I don't do this my dreams won't come true" and thus my dreams enable me to push harder and what not

2017-09-21 01:46:15 UTC

i've just hit a point in my life

2017-09-21 01:46:25 UTC

where i feel like i should have *some* motivation

2017-09-21 01:46:57 UTC

Remember, motivation is a false god. True success comes from determination

2017-09-21 01:49:09 UTC

Nah I've found that the middleground is best

2017-09-21 01:50:44 UTC

Like sure doing something because you're determined to do it and your standard is "it gets done", but it becomes a lot better when you're motivated to do it

2017-09-21 01:50:50 UTC

As long as you don't *depend* on motivation

2017-09-21 02:32:20 UTC

So

2017-09-21 02:32:32 UTC

What is the exact plan, as far as this specific channel?

2017-09-21 02:33:50 UTC

Anything homesteading/prepper/survival related.

2017-09-21 02:34:46 UTC

Ah I see

2017-09-21 02:35:10 UTC

What's the general then for overall discussion?

2017-09-21 02:35:49 UTC

Yeah, anything that doesn't fit in the other channels I suppose.

2017-09-21 02:36:12 UTC

this is for stuff like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vuMSoQzYfs

2017-09-21 02:36:45 UTC

Oh my bad, survival stuff would go in <#359944897676967946> .
