OPi PC uses Cortex-A7 instead

2016-08-15 16:21:54 UTC

Too bad I use a sunxi-linux kernel

2016-08-15 16:22:22 UTC

Yeah, I saw a deal on Ali where you could get an orange pi pc, case and charger for 20 bucks.

2016-08-15 16:23:10 UTC

Use mine with a shark

2016-08-15 16:23:19 UTC

Personally I picked the DC-IN to USB cable

2016-08-15 16:23:31 UTC

I wouldnt use a chink power brick unless it was from DVE/Xiaomi

2016-08-15 16:23:40 UTC

and even then their flimsy adaptor bit is very very questionable

2016-08-15 16:24:34 UTC

>one line of text is all it needs

2016-08-15 16:24:36 UTC

christ

2016-08-15 16:25:47 UTC

Chinks chinking

2016-08-15 16:25:56 UTC

Nothing to see here

2016-08-15 16:26:43 UTC

This blunder made by the company has been frustrating to many developers. Allwinner has also been less transparent about the backdoor code. David Manouchehri released the information about the backdoor through its own Github account (Pastebin) and then apparently deleted it.

2016-08-15 16:26:45 UTC

chinks got to him

2016-08-15 16:27:24 UTC

HOLY SHIT

2016-08-15 16:27:24 UTC

rather pay the extra and get an RP3 than deal with shady chinks who won't release their code

2016-08-15 16:27:25 UTC

tkaiser

2016-08-15 16:27:35 UTC

I know that guy, he's a really cool German tech employee

2016-08-15 16:31:20 UTC

anyway

2016-08-15 16:31:37 UTC

Allwinner released the source for the kernel that made this even possible

2016-08-15 16:31:52 UTC

just saying

2016-08-15 16:31:56 UTC

they could have just not released it

2016-08-15 16:32:15 UTC

But pi's community comes with autism and mincecraft xD

2016-08-15 16:32:46 UTC

What kind of moron would attempt to run something so bloated as java-based minecraft on pi's

2016-08-15 16:33:12 UTC

The community on OPi is really good, we had people do a lot of awesome with them and even used it as a shitty DAC using chink amps

2016-08-15 16:33:24 UTC

Mainline is coming soon, and in case you wonder about what comfy posted above

2016-08-15 16:33:53 UTC

it was allwinners legacy kernel, not https://github.com/igorpecovnik/linux/tree/sun8i

2016-08-15 16:34:44 UTC

Seems like Orange Pi is a safe choice afterall.

2016-08-15 16:35:01 UTC

But the Raspberry Pi Zero seels cool.

2016-08-15 16:35:07 UTC

9 buckaroos for a pc.

2016-08-15 16:35:14 UTC

I heard it was hard to get one, and its for a special use you know?

2016-08-15 16:35:29 UTC

No NIC, at most I'd use it with chink power bank as some kind of uhm idk

2016-08-15 16:35:33 UTC

GPIO-based project?

2016-08-15 16:35:53 UTC

The chinks already made a clone

2016-08-15 16:36:09 UTC

Someone made a real clone

2016-08-15 16:36:13 UTC

C.H.I.P

2016-08-15 16:36:53 UTC

Nah

2016-08-15 16:37:05 UTC

I think CHIP came out far before the raspi crew did anything about that

2016-08-15 16:37:16 UTC

Oh yeah

2016-08-15 16:37:23 UTC

It was the other way around.

2016-08-15 16:37:43 UTC

I remember the threads and how the pi people shilled the zero.

2016-08-15 16:38:18 UTC

But with that said, the CHIP uses R8 CPU, I'd go with a H3

2016-08-15 16:38:41 UTC

now they released an arm64 budget CPU too

2016-08-15 16:38:50 UTC

Eh, I'll probably go with an Orange Pi PC for emulation.

2016-08-15 16:39:04 UTC

be careful about support

2016-08-15 16:39:06 UTC

Link to that budget cpu?

2016-08-15 16:39:19 UTC

Support? Why.

2016-08-15 16:39:20 UTC
2016-08-15 16:39:29 UTC

Raspi has awesome software support

2016-08-15 16:39:34 UTC

Does the Orange Pi implode often or?

2016-08-15 16:39:36 UTC

people here are mostly making kernel by community effort

2016-08-15 16:39:51 UTC

the reason I recommend the H3 is this in particular

2016-08-15 16:39:52 UTC

Mainline status

U-Boot already supports the H3 SoC at least since 2016.01-rc3 and has defconfigs for Orange Pi PC and Xunlong Orange Pi Plus boards.
Also initial H3 patches have been submitted to the mainline kernel, but have not landed yet. Currently you can find the patches in the arm-linux mailing list, or alternatively in one of the work-in-progress kernel forks:

2016-08-15 16:40:07 UTC

Its the only newer chink SoC which are abotu guaranteed to have a mainline kernel push

2016-08-15 16:40:37 UTC

Oh, that's cool.

2016-08-15 16:41:04 UTC

Well, you said 15 bucks, right?

2016-08-15 16:41:19 UTC

Do you know where I can find a nice case for it?

2016-08-15 16:41:43 UTC

I would just take their bundle, I ordered the one with case, USB to DC-IN cable and the board

2016-08-15 16:42:00 UTC

Took my own power brick to power it and ofc

2016-08-15 16:42:01 UTC

From Ali?

2016-08-15 16:42:09 UTC

yeah, the package was quite smashed up

2016-08-15 16:42:18 UTC

but it was packed in anti-static and no pins had any damage

2016-08-15 16:42:32 UTC

been running for months, at first I was a tad bit scared

2016-08-15 16:42:47 UTC

I dont think GB is gonna sell that any cheaper

2016-08-15 16:42:49 UTC

than on ali

2016-08-15 16:43:04 UTC

You also need a HQ flash card, have a shark? You'll be safe

2016-08-15 16:43:22 UTC

I have 32 gb micro sd laying around

2016-08-15 16:43:39 UTC

I ain't gonna use my 128 shark on a micro pc.

2016-08-15 16:43:44 UTC

haha ofc not

2016-08-15 16:43:48 UTC

Haha

2016-08-15 16:43:49 UTC

I use 16gb one more than enough

2016-08-15 16:44:04 UTC

What do you do with it?

2016-08-15 16:44:09 UTC

runs NAS

2016-08-15 16:44:17 UTC

Basically the thing has above 5 TB storage hooked up

2016-08-15 16:44:44 UTC

so flash memory isnt my biggest worry

2016-08-15 16:44:53 UTC

Ah fuck

2016-08-15 16:44:55 UTC

If I wanted I could format the sdcard to just be a boot partition

2016-08-15 16:45:01 UTC

and boot it up from the hard drive

2016-08-15 16:45:10 UTC

yeah that works perfectly fine

2016-08-15 16:45:23 UTC

I accidently deleted the orange pi I had in my wishlist.

2016-08-15 16:45:25 UTC

nonetheless it will not boot without flash memory

2016-08-15 16:45:27 UTC

Got a link for that bundle?

2016-08-15 16:45:48 UTC

Seems like you've got everything unde control.

2016-08-15 16:45:55 UTC

Under*

2016-08-15 16:48:21 UTC

with shipping

2016-08-15 16:48:25 UTC

Nice.

2016-08-15 16:48:26 UTC

it costed me about $24-25

2016-08-15 16:48:38 UTC

20 usd here

2016-08-15 16:48:53 UTC

You can get one for 18 usd without the cheap charger.

2016-08-15 16:48:57 UTC

look at shipping cost

2016-08-15 16:49:13 UTC

maybe its just higher because of my country

2016-08-15 16:49:20 UTC

Nice

2016-08-15 16:49:23 UTC

Well, the thing is, you need a DC-IN with the same size

2016-08-15 16:49:41 UTC

and ordering that isn't that smart, as it could even cost you a tad bit

2016-08-15 16:49:45 UTC

I think eBay has em

2016-08-15 16:49:50 UTC

Oh no

2016-08-15 16:50:24 UTC

But didn't you say that the charger that came with id real shitty?
