Oh yeah

2016-08-15 16:37:23 UTC

It was the other way around.

2016-08-15 16:37:43 UTC

I remember the threads and how the pi people shilled the zero.

2016-08-15 16:38:18 UTC

But with that said, the CHIP uses R8 CPU, I'd go with a H3

2016-08-15 16:38:41 UTC

now they released an arm64 budget CPU too

2016-08-15 16:38:50 UTC

Eh, I'll probably go with an Orange Pi PC for emulation.

2016-08-15 16:39:04 UTC

be careful about support

2016-08-15 16:39:06 UTC

Link to that budget cpu?

2016-08-15 16:39:19 UTC

Support? Why.

2016-08-15 16:39:20 UTC
2016-08-15 16:39:29 UTC

Raspi has awesome software support

2016-08-15 16:39:34 UTC

Does the Orange Pi implode often or?

2016-08-15 16:39:36 UTC

people here are mostly making kernel by community effort

2016-08-15 16:39:51 UTC

the reason I recommend the H3 is this in particular

2016-08-15 16:39:52 UTC

Mainline status

U-Boot already supports the H3 SoC at least since 2016.01-rc3 and has defconfigs for Orange Pi PC and Xunlong Orange Pi Plus boards.
Also initial H3 patches have been submitted to the mainline kernel, but have not landed yet. Currently you can find the patches in the arm-linux mailing list, or alternatively in one of the work-in-progress kernel forks:

2016-08-15 16:40:07 UTC

Its the only newer chink SoC which are abotu guaranteed to have a mainline kernel push

2016-08-15 16:40:37 UTC

Oh, that's cool.

2016-08-15 16:41:04 UTC

Well, you said 15 bucks, right?

2016-08-15 16:41:19 UTC

Do you know where I can find a nice case for it?

2016-08-15 16:41:43 UTC

I would just take their bundle, I ordered the one with case, USB to DC-IN cable and the board

2016-08-15 16:42:00 UTC

Took my own power brick to power it and ofc

2016-08-15 16:42:01 UTC

From Ali?

2016-08-15 16:42:09 UTC

yeah, the package was quite smashed up

2016-08-15 16:42:18 UTC

but it was packed in anti-static and no pins had any damage

2016-08-15 16:42:32 UTC

been running for months, at first I was a tad bit scared

2016-08-15 16:42:47 UTC

I dont think GB is gonna sell that any cheaper

2016-08-15 16:42:49 UTC

than on ali

2016-08-15 16:43:04 UTC

You also need a HQ flash card, have a shark? You'll be safe

2016-08-15 16:43:22 UTC

I have 32 gb micro sd laying around

2016-08-15 16:43:39 UTC

I ain't gonna use my 128 shark on a micro pc.

2016-08-15 16:43:44 UTC

haha ofc not

2016-08-15 16:43:48 UTC

Haha

2016-08-15 16:43:49 UTC

I use 16gb one more than enough

2016-08-15 16:44:04 UTC

What do you do with it?

2016-08-15 16:44:09 UTC

runs NAS

2016-08-15 16:44:17 UTC

Basically the thing has above 5 TB storage hooked up

2016-08-15 16:44:44 UTC

so flash memory isnt my biggest worry

2016-08-15 16:44:53 UTC

Ah fuck

2016-08-15 16:44:55 UTC

If I wanted I could format the sdcard to just be a boot partition

2016-08-15 16:45:01 UTC

and boot it up from the hard drive

2016-08-15 16:45:10 UTC

yeah that works perfectly fine
