He's directly asked me a question perhaps twice. And one of those was just recently.
that's cool. i am not worthy, however
I
I've probably had just as wide of an audience, perhaps even larger, but no one would know me.
I'd been a big part of some major fan sites.
The first one was dying and fading into irrelevance before me. And after I saved it and brought it from the brink of death turning it into a juggernaught that was the web standard for that subject, I got betrayed and shoved out.
As with most stories like that. Sorry that had to happen. Build something up just to be shat on. Must've been hard.
Heard of Zelda Wiki?
Yeah, that place.
It was dead and dying in 2008. No one on its staff knew what the hell they were doing and the place was falling apart. I came in, vastly overhauled it, and shoved it beyond the rival Wikia wiki on Zelda and now it dominates in search results.
Some of the others got jealous of me and plotted to get rid of me. And made their move after I proposed forming a network of other independent Nintendo wikis. They got me kicked out and stole the idea for the network and went to Bulbapedia to form the network.
...
jeez
jealousy is a wonderful thing, isn't it?
i love gaytorad
They still use the framework I built today. They have to because they still don't understand how to do any coding.
I'm looking at the page now. It's well put together. What was it like before? ๐
They've changed how some of it looks. But the vast majority of the coding it uses is mine.
sue dem ez gaem
it has ads that get past my adblock
What have you done to try and get it back?
I didn't.
I made a rival wiki.
Zeldapedia?
Ew. No.
XD
Never go corporate.
feelsbadman
Zelda Dungeon Wiki. I haven't be able to get in edgewise in search results because we did too good with Zelda Wiki.
I've actually seen that around.
be an elite hackzer and ddos them
Yeah, well that's mine. I made it and run it.
jk
Ah~ Internet history.
if you were smorc you would haxded dem
Short version:
It was poltical. The people at Zelda Wiki cared more about their personal power and glory than actually making a functional site. Anyone who knew what they were doing would find themselves removed because they'd have to tell the people in power that certain things couldn't be done or that they had to be done a certain way and the pride of those people wouldn't allow that.
So it was like putting career politicians in charge of tech support.
Ugh, tech support
Or to have politicians run a server.
They know nothing about how to do anything but have immense egos and think they know everything and won't hear any different, *or else*
People don't like to hear the truth, for fear of their illusioms being shattered
*illusions
Zelda Wiki has continued this behavior today. They still place status and power over function and cooperation. Having a fluid, efficient team is considered less important than having authority over people who have to show you respect for your status.
So it basically is a political party
that's bs emma.
as in that bullshit that happened to you.. not that i think your lying lol.
uh oh don't respond they on dnd, edgy doe. ๐ 8
Their only strength now is that they still have a solid search ranking. Other than that they barely hold together because you cannot have a functional team with that kind of "status is what's important" mentality.
edge lord on dnd ๐
There is a ridiciulously high rate of staff turnover because of how unbearable the working conditions are.
Pffft
All it ever is, is egomanics lording over everything going on about how they're better than you because they're in positions of power.
Well, what's happened has happened. No matter what. No point in droning on and on about another entities faults. They have their shitty team. Let them have their shitty team. It'll be their downfall eventually. You have your wiki with amazing managment. Focus on that.
They're so immature. But I managed to keep one friend there with a power posistion. He has been helpful with diffusing instances of the ZW staff trying to cause trouble.
When my wiki formed I reached an agreement with this staff member, who is one of those in charge and is the only one not an egomaniac, about how to handle image credit and similar issues of content use. We agreed that images are a non-issue because they belong to Nintendo. And text was okay as long as it wasn't directly copied. Since we both understood as a point of pride we'd never copy anyway.
The ZW staff a few later tried to cause trouble by claiming that we were copying images and text. We weren't because we considered their work inferior, and they denied that any such agreement was made previously. I informed my firend of what they were doing and he was pissed, at them. For lying about the agreement and causing trouble with a competator over a non-issue that wasn't even happening.
So small favors I suppose.
I took it as them being threatened by our success.
It's good to have friends in high places XD
Most likely.
He asked a couple times to come back. That was never going to happen.
For one, the obsession with power and status was still in full force. And second, I was never going to get an appology for what happened nor any credit for my ideas that had been stolen.
Remember sevenish years ago when a lot of Wikia wikis revolted and left Wikia?
http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Fallout_Wiki
This one for instance.
They were inspired to do so by NIWA, the very network of Nintendo wikis I had proposed, that got stolen from me, that never would have existed had I not proposed it in the first place.
I never really follow this kind of stuff. I was busy with 4th Grade back then ._.
Well you can see it by there seeming to be two copies of several wikis, one on Wikia, and one somewhere else, like that one.
This I have noticed
Well none of that would have happened if not for me.
No one knows who the hell I am but I've had a huge impact on the internet.
Clearly XD
You learn something new everyday, I guess
