when faced with a situation that could be deadly you are more likely to come out of it alive if you approach the situation with empathy and humanity. Most people have a hard time hurting someone they identify with, or they feel identifies with them.
This is why for all of human history we have had to dehumanize our enemies before we can defeat them.
"A Real Man" is someone who can take that situation and deal with the human in front of them.
