A New Orleans zoo remained closed on Saturday after a jaguar escaped its habitat and killed six other animals.
Audubon Zoo said the 3-year-old male jaguar, named Valero, was spotted outside his enclosure by a zoo employee around 7 a.m.
Valero attacked four alpacas, one emu and a fox. The animals died.
Kyle Burks, vice president and managing director for the zoo, said at a news conference that Valero was sedated by a team of veterinarians and the animal was returned and secured in his area. No humans were injured.
The zoo was closed Saturday but said it will reopen Sunday.
โWe care for these animals every day,โ Burks said. โWe closed the zoo today to help our team mourn.โ
No explanation has been given for the jaguarโs escape, but the zoo said an โafter-action reviewโ is taking place, as well as an investigation into how the jaguar escaped.
โWe take this situation very seriously and weโre working to investigate everything that happened so we could prevent anything like this from happening again โ Burks said.

Some members of a Los Angeles County watchdog panel are calling on Sheriff Jim McDonnell to launch a thorough investigation into allegations of a secret society of deputies that brands its members with matching skull tattoos.
The revelation this week that a deputy admitted to getting inked two years ago as part of a ritual within the Compton station has raised concerns that deputy cliques, long part of a controversial agency subculture, have persisted despite the departmentโs reform efforts.
Hernรกn Vera, who serves on the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission, said the deputyโs admission in a lawsuit over a fatal shooting that he and as many as 20 others have the signature tattoos was โthoroughly disturbing.โ
โItโs not the kind of culture that you want to foster in the 21st century Sheriffโs Department,โ said Vera, a principal in the law firm Bird Marella.
Several pedestrians were hospitalized early Friday morning after being struck by a car in Bellflower.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Woodruff Avenue and Foster Road at about 2 a.m., a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson told KTLA.
Five people, including the driver, were sent to the hospital following the crash, the spokesperson said.

A man suspected of attacking his wife with a chain saw in Whittier had been deported 11 times since 2005, immigration officials said.
Alejandro Alvarez Villegas attacked his wife in their home Wednesday, with their three children inside, according to Whittier police. The 32-year-old then fled the scene in a stolen car.
The woman was transported to a local trauma center where she underwent surgery, Officer John Scoggins said.
โSheโs currently recovering and expected to survive,โ Scoggins said.

A Gardena man found guilty of raping and suffocating a woman, and raping three other women, was sentenced to 286 years to life in state prison on Friday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.
More than two years after suffocating a woman to death after sexually assaulting her at a Gardena hotel, Kevon Takashi Ross, 33, was sentenced in her death and assault as well as the rape of three other women, according to the DA's office.
She was found with her body wrapped entirely in cellophane and duct tape, covering her mouth and nose as it extended from her abdomen to her hair, according to the Daily Breeze.

Police found camera and cell phone footage of some of the actions that took place earlier in the evening, along with graphic videos of other women, the Breeze reported. Authorities then interviewed those women to locate other victims.
Investigators discovered Ross had sexually assaulted his girlfriend years earlier in October 2007. He also raped two other women who he had dated between June and November 2015, assaulting one of them in Riverside.
A jury found him guilty of 25 felony counts on May 30.
The charges include first-degree murder, sodomy of an unconscious victim, eight counts of rape of an unconscious person, seven counts of forcible rape, six counts of sexual penetration by foreign object and two counts of injuring a girlfriend.

BERKELEY (KRON) - Three people are being treated at a hospital following a shooting on I-80 in Berkeley Saturday morning.
Police say it happened on the highway near the Gilman Street exit.
They found out about it because the three victims involved self-transported themselves to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds.
Police went to the scene around 4:30 a.m. and shut down the highway from the University Avenue to the Gilman Street exits to investigate and gather evidence.
Just after that a four-car crash happened right after the University Avenue exit just about a half mile away from the shooting scene.
One person was taken to the hospital with injuries.
The crash shut down three lanes in the area until about 6:15 a.m.
Police say the two incidents are not related.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Police say Orlando Vilchez Lazo allegedly raped four women and disguised himself as a rideshare driver to prey on victims.
Neighbors living on S. Norfolk Ave. in San Mateo were shocked to learn they were living on the same street as an accused serial rapist.

"Police went in and the next thing I knew he came out in handcuffs," said neighbor Sara Shayesteh.
Sheyesteh and her husband Isaac watched the arrest of 37-year-old Orlando Vilchez Lazo. Police say Lazo raped four women over the past five years while posing as a rideshare driver.

The SFPD says Lazo posed as a rideshare driver, then intercepted random women as they left nightclubs and bars in SOMA, mistaking his car for one they ordered. The first assault was in 2013. The last was just this past June .
Police say DNA evidence linked Lazo to the assaults.
Rideshare companies reacted quickly. Lyft revealed in a statement, "We have confirmed that this person did drive for Lyft but as soon as we were made aware of these horrific and deeply disturbing allegations, we immediately deactivated him."
Lyft adds it doesn't believe any of the assaults occurred on their platform. Uber said the suspect is not an Uber driver and never was.
