If there was only one website on the internet youโ€™d have more of an argument but there isnโ€™t

2018-09-10 11:20:04 UTC

Okay Alex Jones for example, he's not allowed on Apple anymore but he isn't being arrested he's still doing his thing and doing his free speech.

He's being deplatformed but he can still say what he likes on his own website.

2018-09-10 11:20:42 UTC

It would only be a freedom of speech problem if they arrested him

2018-09-10 11:20:45 UTC

Being deplatformed is censorship

2018-09-10 11:21:03 UTC

Yeah and being censored is not a freedoms of rights violation

2018-09-10 11:21:09 UTC

But it is still censorship

2018-09-10 11:21:22 UTC

@Satan The real question here is, โ€œwho really owns the internetโ€?

2018-09-10 11:21:26 UTC

Is it okay for a private company to tell you to heck off?

2018-09-10 11:21:55 UTC

Yes

2018-09-10 11:22:13 UTC

Is it ethical?

2018-09-10 11:22:19 UTC

But don't say that you're not censoring them because you are
And I'm not saying that it's wrong to do so

2018-09-10 11:22:24 UTC

Depends

2018-09-10 11:22:29 UTC

I'd say not

2018-09-10 11:22:32 UTC

But that's me

2018-09-10 11:23:09 UTC

Say I doxx someone should I be banned from discord?

2018-09-10 11:23:11 UTC

@The Gwench there's no particular entity that does that

2018-09-10 11:23:15 UTC

I think so

2018-09-10 11:23:16 UTC

Yeah

2018-09-10 11:23:28 UTC

Am I being censored?

2018-09-10 11:23:33 UTC

Yes

2018-09-10 11:23:48 UTC

So that's appropriate censorship?

2018-09-10 11:23:53 UTC

Yes

2018-09-10 11:24:33 UTC

Because I broke the laws of the service it was okay to ban me?

2018-09-10 11:24:41 UTC

Yes it was okay

2018-09-10 11:24:51 UTC

But that doesn't mean you weren't being censored

2018-09-10 11:26:23 UTC

So censorship from online services isn't inherently bad

2018-09-10 11:26:36 UTC

Never said it was..

2018-09-10 11:26:48 UTC

I don't agree with it but it's not inherently bad

2018-09-10 11:27:15 UTC

I just have a problem with people putting themselves on a high horse and preaching how they don't censor when they do exactly that

2018-09-10 11:27:40 UTC

*cough* alt earth

2018-09-10 11:27:58 UTC

Can you give me an example?

2018-09-10 11:28:03 UTC

Oh wait lol

2018-09-10 11:28:30 UTC

๐Ÿ˜‚

2018-09-10 11:28:41 UTC

@The Gwench do you agree with Fluff?

2018-09-10 11:28:58 UTC

But yeah YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, they all censor you and no it isn't bad

2018-09-10 11:29:14 UTC

Just read from your last message down ๐Ÿ˜Š

2018-09-10 11:29:16 UTC

It's within their right to decide what they allow in their platform

2018-09-10 11:29:34 UTC

Oh that similey is a wee bit much

2018-09-10 11:30:07 UTC

And I agree when you say that we agree to their conditions when we use their site so it's not really upon us to bitch about being censored

2018-09-10 11:30:39 UTC

I agree with you so far, however I think calling censorship should be a more protected term.

2018-09-10 11:31:10 UTC

I'm sure there's a word less strong that can be substituted for it in many cases

2018-09-10 11:31:30 UTC

Because your speech isn't being suppressed just rerouted

2018-09-10 11:31:53 UTC

Well I don't think being censored is necessarily a violation of freedom of speech

2018-09-10 11:32:06 UTC

You can still say whatever just not in a certain place

2018-09-10 11:32:49 UTC

So we agree but we are being pedantic about the terms?

2018-09-10 11:33:19 UTC

Maybe lel

2018-09-10 11:33:20 UTC

I think it boils down to the fact that when you think censorship you think โ€œChinese governmentโ€ or North Korea, the first thing you think of isnโ€™t YouTube deleting your pirated film

2018-09-10 11:33:34 UTC

True

2018-09-10 11:33:54 UTC

I do want Gwenchs take on this as she seemed to have a different opinion

2018-09-10 11:34:08 UTC

In practice, itโ€™s used to describe the extreme end more than the tiny little things like banning you from a website

2018-09-10 11:34:52 UTC

She's also more invested as she has had her Twitter gotten by the big mass ban

2018-09-10 11:34:58 UTC

Yeah puppy but I think that's what we were talking about
Shadow banning people would be censorship but it's also Facebook's right to be snowflakes

2018-09-10 11:35:25 UTC

Loaded terms <:angery:486195953410244608>

2018-09-10 11:35:52 UTC

4chan is d best

2018-09-10 11:35:54 UTC

No rules

2018-09-10 11:36:17 UTC

4chan is not good

2018-09-10 11:36:24 UTC

It has everything

2018-09-10 11:36:31 UTC

But I like places that don't have rules

2018-09-10 11:36:36 UTC

Especially on internet

2018-09-10 11:36:46 UTC

Reddit has everything but you don't have to put up with anything you don't want

2018-09-10 11:36:54 UTC

Eh

2018-09-10 11:37:06 UTC

Reddish quarantines subreddits

2018-09-10 11:37:10 UTC

Reddit*

2018-09-10 11:37:26 UTC

Yeah fair call for them

2018-09-10 11:37:29 UTC

Only the illegal ones usually

2018-09-10 11:37:31 UTC

Just the most toxic ones

2018-09-10 11:37:38 UTC

I would have no problem with censorship if their intentions were to prevent harm to others or to the fate of our political process. However, how could that possibly be policed?

2018-09-10 11:37:43 UTC

Or if theyโ€™re getting a bit extreme and taking over like the_donald did

2018-09-10 11:37:48 UTC

As much as I hate incels they weren't illegal

2018-09-10 11:38:00 UTC

They had incredibly violent rhetoric

2018-09-10 11:38:08 UTC

Not illegal

2018-09-10 11:38:12 UTC

They are dicks

2018-09-10 11:38:23 UTC

And they weren't doing anything illegal

2018-09-10 11:38:45 UTC

Calling for death to all women is borderline crime

2018-09-10 11:38:56 UTC

Is it?

2018-09-10 11:39:07 UTC

@Satan It May be illegal if itโ€™s considered to be slander.

2018-09-10 11:39:08 UTC

Even if it's hilariously unachievable

2018-09-10 11:39:21 UTC

I don't know if it's crime

2018-09-10 11:39:38 UTC

@Satan Inciting violence is a crime.

2018-09-10 11:40:00 UTC

O

2018-09-10 11:40:02 UTC

Sucks

2018-09-10 11:40:20 UTC

@The Gwench removing the fake news is to help the political process though, their main intent is to recover from the Cambridge anylictia issue

2018-09-10 11:40:52 UTC

Apologies for spelling

2018-09-10 11:40:56 UTC

It's late

2018-09-10 11:41:21 UTC

If they find a way to not fuck up their algorithm and not remove satire and specifically target fake news then it'd be good but we all know that won't happen since Facebook sucks cock

2018-09-10 11:41:36 UTC

That's what they are aiming for

2018-09-10 11:41:38 UTC

@I-VaPE-ChEMtrAiLS How would we ever know if their intentions are true, or if to push their own personal agenda.

2018-09-10 11:41:56 UTC

If they developed an algorithm that complex they could basically just make licensing that algorithm out their entire business model

2018-09-10 11:41:56 UTC

Won't happen :^)

2018-09-10 11:43:37 UTC

Say one party was making hundreds of thousands of misleading posts with the intent to split people apart if you stopped them posting would that be okay? @The Gwench

2018-09-10 11:44:13 UTC

Hey guys. Iโ€™m tired now and going back to bed. Thanks for the great discussion @Satan @xXPuppyLoverXx @I-VaPE-ChEMtrAiLS . ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-09-10 11:44:23 UTC

2018-09-10 11:44:29 UTC

2018-09-10 11:45:14 UTC

<:smart:484956754489376781>

2018-09-10 11:45:20 UTC

2018-09-10 11:45:25 UTC

@I-VaPE-ChEMtrAiLS Only if they can be proven to be misleading @I-VaPE-ChEMtrAiLS
