PhD just prices you out of the workforce

2017-04-04 16:49:24 UTC

Unless you want to teach

2017-04-04 16:49:56 UTC

The only Engineer that I know that has higher than a BS has an MS, and adjusted for cost of living, he makes less than any of the others with a BS

2017-04-04 16:50:31 UTC

The license is what matters

2017-04-04 16:50:40 UTC

Once you get your license and get hired you're set

2017-04-04 16:50:49 UTC

Of course, part of that is because he works at a very prestigeous company with the attitude that "being able to say you work here is compensation enough, most engineers would beg to work here for free, fuck you"

2017-04-04 16:51:58 UTC

maybe, maybe not. The ones I've asked have told me "nah, I don't really need my EIT, I already have a job at a place that doesn't give a fuck about that"

2017-04-04 16:52:31 UTC

I guess it depends on what you do. For a lot of jobs you need the cert

2017-04-04 16:52:55 UTC

But more important is GPA. If you don't graduate with 3.0+ undergrad GPA as an engineer you're screwed

2017-04-04 16:53:46 UTC

@vonGoethe i am a research engineer doing medical stuff

2017-04-04 16:53:56 UTC

if i was mech you'd be right

2017-04-04 16:54:04 UTC

I see. That makes sense

2017-04-04 16:54:07 UTC

In my field the cert matters, but you can get hired without it, most companies pay for your first attempt at the exam if you've been working there for a while, and raise your pay if you pass

2017-04-04 16:54:29 UTC

lol at reasearch anything

2017-04-04 16:54:35 UTC

Fed gov just dropped half a billion bones in research going into manufacturing tissues for personalized medicine

2017-04-04 16:54:50 UTC

it's going to be an assembly line

2017-04-04 16:54:52 UTC

1. Scan

2017-04-04 16:54:55 UTC

2. Acquire tissues

2017-04-04 16:54:57 UTC

3. Assemble

2017-04-04 16:54:59 UTC

4. Implant

2017-04-04 16:55:16 UTC

also there's all kinds of weird shit going on

2017-04-04 16:55:44 UTC

I met the guy that was responsible for the last decline in DNA sequencing

2017-04-04 16:55:46 UTC

If I could go back in time 2 yrs I would go EE or ME
But I started as econ major and took all the lower div econ credits already
Switched to applied math major but too late to take the engineering pre-reqs
>tfw BTFO the chinks in physics but won't be an engineer

2017-04-04 16:55:55 UTC

dropped the price from like 10 cents per base pair to like .0001

2017-04-04 16:55:56 UTC

yeah but did you smoke pot with Johnny Hopkins

2017-04-04 16:55:59 UTC

or something ridiculous like that

2017-04-04 16:56:17 UTC

IF YOUR CHANNEL DOESNT HAVE A MEANING

2017-04-04 16:56:19 UTC

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING

2017-04-04 16:56:21 UTC

SERIOUSLY

2017-04-04 16:56:24 UTC

*FLASHES ASS*

2017-04-04 16:56:28 UTC

*FLASHES TITS*

2017-04-04 16:56:32 UTC

IM MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD

2017-04-04 16:56:33 UTC

My hope now is to get hired as an analyst, and find a company that will pay for my MS econ

2017-04-04 16:56:38 UTC

MEN ARE SHIT FUCK MEAT EATERS

2017-04-04 16:56:42 UTC

Because I want to beat the jews at jewish sports

2017-04-04 16:56:51 UTC

@vonGoethe ms econ?

2017-04-04 16:56:59 UTC

@vonGoethe >tfw #1 student in my statics and dynamics classes
>tfw not going to use statics or dynamics for my career

a-at least i proved I am white

2017-04-04 16:57:07 UTC

Masters Science, economics

2017-04-04 16:57:13 UTC

oh gotcha

2017-04-04 16:57:14 UTC

As opposed to MA

2017-04-04 16:57:16 UTC

@vonGoethe I regret my econ degree too

2017-04-04 16:57:16 UTC

yeah

2017-04-04 16:57:20 UTC

MS/BS master race

2017-04-04 16:57:22 UTC

should have gone engineering

2017-04-04 16:57:23 UTC

ma/ba kys

2017-04-04 16:57:27 UTC

>degrees
it's called carpentry

2017-04-04 16:57:28 UTC

Well, I'm getting an applied math degree

2017-04-04 16:57:39 UTC

Focus on statistics

2017-04-04 16:57:43 UTC

tfw you went to a school without any asians

2017-04-04 16:57:54 UTC

@Caerulus_Rex check your privilege

2017-04-04 16:57:55 UTC

And the uni I'm transferring to has a top 30 prob/stats dept

2017-04-04 16:58:00 UTC

So I'll be set

2017-04-04 16:58:11 UTC

sheeeeeeeeeit we have a lot of them

2017-04-04 16:58:14 UTC

Econ as a second degree

2017-04-04 16:58:17 UTC

yea, I'm 10 years out of college

2017-04-04 16:58:18 UTC

Because why not?

2017-04-04 16:58:27 UTC

demographics in my grad program in order of representation:

2017-04-04 16:58:27 UTC

you can still change some things

Chinese

2017-04-04 16:58:56 UTC

well, my class at least

2017-04-04 16:58:56 UTC

With the math degree I could still go into an engineering-type field

2017-04-04 16:59:04 UTC

Like machine learning or analytics

2017-04-04 16:59:06 UTC

Sounds very diverse...

2017-04-04 16:59:08 UTC

this year's class looks mostly huhwhite to me

2017-04-04 17:00:32 UTC

When I wasn't Jew wise and I was just a lolbertarian white male chad frat guy I never really understood why my peers didn't like me, and for whatever reason all the cali and NY girls hated me no matter what I tried

2017-04-04 17:01:05 UTC

@Convo
>tfw #1 in general physics w/ calc 2 terms in a row
>tfw BTFO chinks and jews
>tfw still won't be an engineer

2017-04-04 17:01:54 UTC

then, after just distancing myself from them all for months, and in the mean time finding my way here, on Nov 9, one of them moaned "OOOOOOYYYYYY VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYY" to the others so loud it drowned out whatever podcast I was listening to 50 ft away

2017-04-04 17:02:58 UTC

@vonGoethe Based on my understanding, engineers don't really do engineering unless they're civil

2017-04-04 17:03:21 UTC

mechanical engineers don't really have much to do for cars, I think their employment has been decreasing by like 3% for years

2017-04-04 17:03:26 UTC

I know that chemical is crashing too

2017-04-04 17:03:35 UTC

but that electrical is on the up and up because there's still stuff to do

2017-04-04 17:03:38 UTC

I would go EE

2017-04-04 17:03:43 UTC

but like, we have reached the thermodynamic limit of cars

2017-04-04 17:03:51 UTC

you can't get them better than this unless you switch to a jet engine or something

2017-04-04 17:03:52 UTC

Probably, that's the hardest and a lot of people wash out in yr 3

2017-04-04 17:04:01 UTC

no, i'm talking about actual employment

2017-04-04 17:04:08 UTC

LOL my dad just called me freaking out in full on black pilled @wyatt mode about Trump and I explained to him what was going on and the Kosher Sandwhich and he goes "I guess you really are onto something with this anti-semitism stuff."

2017-04-04 17:04:19 UTC

lol

2017-04-04 17:04:26 UTC

the stuff I'm doing is like 25% employment up every year or something retarded because it's just starting and no one knows what's going on or what's gunna work

2017-04-04 17:04:35 UTC

EEs are employed

2017-04-04 17:04:47 UTC

@vonGoethe yeah, like I said, computer stuff

2017-04-04 17:04:47 UTC

trump is full on art of the deal mode

2017-04-04 17:04:58 UTC

healthcare bill is coming before tax reform

2017-04-04 17:04:58 UTC

lol, when my former roommate was in grad school he'd get about an email a day from one car company or cart parts supplier a week begging him to drop out of his MSME program and come work for them

2017-04-04 17:05:01 UTC

it was all a ruse

2017-04-04 17:05:02 UTC

@wyatt Holy shit stop zigzagging me

2017-04-04 17:05:06 UTC

lol

2017-04-04 17:05:07 UTC

I trust you so much and you fuck with me so much

2017-04-04 17:05:08 UTC

But with an applied math degree I figure I'll do alright

2017-04-04 17:05:09 UTC

he is a complete psychopath

2017-04-04 17:05:12 UTC

Wyatt proved wrong again

2017-04-04 17:05:19 UTC
