We didn't change any hardware at all, come to think of it.
Just instantly, back to full speed.
I don't doubt it.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Comcast is just widely regarded as being terrible.
But it's almost like the free market system worked.
All the major American ISPs are terrible save for Google and Verizon fiber.
at least, for you.
Not.. really?
It kind of did.
I'd have to actually look at things like contracts etc.
You had shitty service with one company
and you switched to another.
Now
..No I didn't.
Again.
if only we could open the market
I thought you said you switched service.
We went from comcast standard, which was like, 15 down 5 up.
To comcast basic.
Which was 5:1.
Oh.
Back to comcast standard. 15:5.
Again.
We didn't change anything.
We made a phone call.
How many devices sharing that connection?
The Internet went from beyond shittastic to normal within 5 minutes.
okay there must be an explanation lol
Nothing in the network changed.
I think at the time it was 4 devices in total.
Two desktops, two laptops.
mmhmm...
And a couple of other intermittent devices that went on and off as needed.
so, about 1.25 down, .25 up effectively.
Yeah.
Like I said.
That was basic math.
When I was on "basic" what we actually got was over 8 seconds of ping and a 5mb torrent took 2 weeks to finish.
I only remember this stuff so well because I couldn't even go online in games with friends.
But once again, what you're describing there isn't a net neutrality issue.
And a guy I was really wanting to play with died during the Internet downtime.
So that was fun.
You signed up for a different package.
We didn't get what we paid for.
and even then im not going to take an anecdotal experience when I don't have all the necessary info to just change positions when there is a lot of data on the position im currently on
Then again here's the weird thing.
When we paid for the standard 15:5.
We actually got closer to 27:10.
But when we paid for 5:1, we got 0.1:0.01.
First off, comcast is comcastic. But second off, You switched to a lower package. ISPs were doing that even under Net Neutrality.
What you're describing isn't something that Net Neutrality is designed to combat.
there's something sad to me about someone being extremely familiar with their internet speeds.
Also, pretty sure Comcastic is found in the Thesaurus under 'Retarded'
The point really is trust in the ISPs. Net neutrality is, again, a really messy prospect. But the alternative in letting the big corporation ISPs doing whatever the hell they want is far, far uglier in my mind.
Then again this all falls back to "the whole system needs to be completely flipped over."
that's the winning move.
Remove virtual monopoly.
but they can't do whatever they want
they are still *regulated*
things were going fine without NN, you're still buying into the John Oliver tier talking points
Dude, I couldn't make it 30 seconds into that.
And that was the 20..14? edition of that video.
And it's less john oliver and more of people like level1techs.
Who are.. surprisingly libertarians.
Hey WHAT
Any chance you'd let us peruse your google doc?
^
sure
ill just post the links i have in it

My general point is that the internet thrived without net neutrality rules through the 90s, the naughts, and up until 2014.
This dude actually goes pretty indepth with that.
Including history.
and I have a YT video by 1791L, but I haven't looked through the primary sources yet so I won't post it
And yes, note that in the very first two minutes of the video he explains his inherent distrust of the government.
This is too long to watch rn but I'll try to take a peek at it
I'll listen to it at work. Send me a link in DMs for bookmark's sake
but in general I don't get any info from YT videos because that's not a reliable source
WHAT is generally right, there.
You all still here
like, ya need to get some research papers and primary sources
not a 45 YO neckbeard
a 45 YO neckbeard with cited sources in the description would probably be better than absolutely nothing tho
right
but he doesn't site any
cite
The other alternative.
Is going through the 45 videos he's done discussing it with onetab sources.
I'll give him a fair listen tomorrow at work.
You would think he would put all sources down
It's a livestream.
It's not a produced video, it's a livestream.
you can edit descriptions
it would just be easier is all im sayin
To be fair, we don't know what angle he's taking on this to begin with.
He might cite articles visually.
etc.
and sources sometimes dont doo much. Like huffpo will have an article about "the health benefits of chocolate" and cite a study but if you read the study it is inconclusive
But women love chocolate, so publish it anyway.
yeah, I'm not trying to discredit him
Holy fuck you have no idea how difficult it is to concentrate on anything when someone's singing off-key reggae in the background.
At 2 in the morning.
It may surprise you to know I know that feel.
At least you don't live with "moderate progressive liberals" right?
Well that's interesting.
I'd forgotten about this.
I did, once.
You guys familiar with Dave Cullen/Computing Forever?
no
He's the only conservative voice I follow that also happens to be super into tech and the like. (I follow tons of other conservatives otherwise.)
And he's against the loss of net neutrality.
is this loss?
It's arguing against the remote possibility of something maybe happening.
No ISPs that would be affected by Net Neutrality have made moves to do anything that would be stopped by Net Neutrality as passed in 2014
As I see it, Net Neutrality is largely fear mongering, and largely a distraction.
it doesn't matter to me if a conservative is against the loss of NN, I wan't to see data and reasons for why it would need to stay, and so far I haven't come across any evidence for keeping it
Sesta/Fosta are far more damaging than the loss of Net Neutrality is.
I honestly don't care that much about tech
I'm still trying to figure out why those were signed into law in the first place.
like, I just grabbed the issue because it was controversial and so I sought out data
Is it standard emotional "won't someone think of the children" crap or something else?
Basically, that.
yeah something like that
Well it explains why Trump signed it.
meanwhile in California they are enabling sex workers
"Eh."
Also decriminalizing intentionally spreading AIDS.
If it's consenting adults, eh.
bro.......
morals bro
The Good news is the California problem will sort itself out in a few years.
And yeah. That. Thaaaat was a concern that people stopped caring after about two days.
Are you talking about the split or something else.
what you mean
oh you know.
>:D
lol
I can't wait to move out
..Ah.
Oh you live in california?
yeah
I feel so bad for you dude. lol
Oh lord you're in that hell?
indeed
I know a guy who lives there.
He's stuck in a union that he was required to sign on with to start working at a grocery store.
We've got a guy in here that lives there. Currently going by Adolfcast.
lol
the beanie-wearing hitler avatar. ๐
He's been shafted repeatedly because the union doesn't actually do anything outside of taking people's paychecks.
Well.
That explains so much.
Technically, my avatar is still in -cast mode.
California's enough to turn anyone natsoc. :V
it's honestly not that bad, where I live is a more rural conservative area
It was a bit of a joke. A few of us photoshopped Tim Pool's combat beanie onto our avatars and added cast to the end of our names.
Yeah I'm pretty sure he lives in a more urban area.
Oh, I know that place, WHAT. I've been there in Grand Theft Auto.
I'm going to school in a more rural area as well
[/willfull ignorance]
It must suck being ruled by LA. :/
and San Fran.
Honestly I imagine it to be like what I have to deal with up here.
yeah I unironcally support CAL3
Except it's state-wide rather than county-wide.
Cal 3?
California splitting.
Ah!
If not from the US, from each other.
a ballot initiative is being put up this year
Noice.
Yeah, I see.
to split Cali into 3
If that were to work
two more stars on the flag
there'd never be a democrat in office again... :/
`They did it to themselves.`
It's just detroit all over again.
yeah, all this sanctuary state bs and welfare bs is the nail in the coffin
people are leaving here in droves
And they're shitting up Texas because of it.
Yeah, and they're coming to fucking Texas and
Yeah.
Wait,
and if CAL3 doesn't pass (it won't) then I'm leaving as soon as I graduate from college
GEP, are you a member of the Superior Nation of Texas?
I'd leave anyway. The gun laws suck in Cali.
I'm not.
ah.
I lived there for a short period of time when I was younger.
Here's a secret that you can't tell anyone, kay guys????
But the only things I remember is the oppressive heat and the absolutely massive steaks they'd serve.
(Utah is the state to be ๐ฏ ๐ฏ )
I lean towards Vermont myself.
gun laws do indeed suck here
Basically nobody there, the gun laws are some of the best in the country and the worst you have to deal with is drunken weather and bears.
Then again I live in an area where temps can go up and down 40 degrees within hours.
get a big piece of land, lots of guns, qt wife, great job, low taxes
..On the upside I'm moving soon.
First thing I'm doing is getting a gun.
North-eastern bears aren't that bad.
For no real reason outside of a middle finger to the people I live with and this entire area as a whole.
Sure, they're a pain in the ass, but they're no Grizzlys.
Also self defense and the other legitimate reasons.
But yeah.
Well yeah. Like I said. Vermont's a good place.
wait where are you and where are you moving to ?
I'm close enough to chicago where I get to deal with all their bullshit laws.
And somewhere in NC. Not by choice but by necessity.
I'm so sorry
and glad you've survived this long.
I'm not close enough to the crime, at least.
Just the laws.
lol
I know all sorts of pointless information about gun laws because of it.
You're not in Deerfield, are you?
For example, did you know it'll cost you $500 *a year* just for the privilege of being able to CC?
And that's only in the occasional business that doesn't have a "no weapons" sign on the front door.
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!
Shall not be infringed.**
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!
There's also that law that says you aren't supposed to have a knife longer than 4" in city limits.
And just, tons of bullshit.
Fuck that shit
I can open carry a katana.
People open carrying just to be shitters are just that.
Have some self-restraint. lol
I said I can.
Not that I do.
It's good to know what you can and can't do. ๐
Fair point.
Although, I disagree on the point that open carrying point.
I'm still in the process of inundating myself with the local laws of NC and some of it's just weird.
I think it might have more to do with different regional cultures
but I've seen someone open carrying a dagger on their belt here
and the worst I think is 'Don't mess with that guy...'
I mean I guess it also has to do with *how* you're carrying it.
If it's borderline brandishing, you come off as an idiot.
If it's respectful, it's fine.
Oh, yeah.
I don't care if you open carry, just don't look like you're actually going to start shooting people willy nilly.
Never mind the link URL
I would never want to open carry
conceal carry just sounds better
Can confirm, these guys are tools.
