How interested are you guys in TTRPGs?
Because there is this cool TTRPG called Shadowrun.

2020-09-01 05:04:28 UTC

shadowrun series is great, doesn't hold a candle to divinity 2 though imo

2020-09-01 05:09:22 UTC

But I am talking the TTRPG specifically.

2020-09-01 05:09:31 UTC

Not the video games

2020-09-01 05:41:02 UTC

ahh tabletop gotchya

2020-09-01 05:41:42 UTC

my brain can only be stimulated by moving pictures

2020-09-01 13:25:23 UTC

I play regularly. I run a 40K Wrath and Glory campaign.

2020-09-01 13:25:56 UTC

Have done Shadowrun before but only like Shadowrun Anarchy because the rules are easier to work with

2020-09-01 22:01:11 UTC

Cool

2020-09-02 08:56:07 UTC

I have Shadowrun Returns on steam but i don't know shit about the game

2020-09-02 13:33:09 UTC

lemme see if I can give a quick rundown of the timeline

2020-09-02 13:33:18 UTC

it all starts in 1980 with John Lennon being shot

2020-09-02 13:33:33 UTC

no I'm not joking, this is the first event on the Shadowrun timeline

2020-09-02 13:56:31 UTC

2000, the US Supreme Court grants a corporation extraterritorial status for the first time. They find pyramids and giant skeletons on Mars with the little rover robots and decide not to fuck with it. White women start popping out elf and dwarf babies. A dragon shows up and explains magic's making a comeback. Then a few years later people start "goblinizing" and a full 10% of the population spontaneously becomes orcs and trolls. The women who's babies turned into trolls while they were still in the womb are not okay. A virus takes out the matrix (global internet), a bunch of people who were jacked in die. The matrix is remade, some retard makes an AI and it gets loose, crashing the matrix again and killing a ton of people again. Japan becomes the dominant world power and everybody starts buying stuff with neoyen. Dragons reveal they were actually the real jews all along as they start assuming positions of power as government leaders and corporate CEOs.

2020-09-05 02:24:06 UTC

๐Ÿค”

2020-09-05 02:24:17 UTC

Going to look up that game.

2020-09-05 02:29:01 UTC

U should

2020-09-05 02:34:59 UTC

So basically the internet was the protomatrix and microchimerism is real

2020-09-05 02:48:36 UTC

yeah basically

2020-09-05 02:48:51 UTC

cool setting but most of the players are cringe as fuck

2020-09-05 07:49:09 UTC

IDK about that. I found a pretty good group of good guys to play with.

2020-09-05 09:12:32 UTC

I mostly mean that in the sense of "There's multiple reasons 6th edition is a complete fucking disaster."

2020-09-05 09:19:28 UTC

Well, I think 6th edition is dogshit b/c Catalyst is a dogshit company.

2020-09-05 09:20:18 UTC

My source being an experienced Shadowrun player.

2020-09-05 09:20:29 UTC

Who is currently my DM.

2020-09-05 09:21:22 UTC

oh there's no doubt catalyst is dogshit

2020-09-05 09:21:29 UTC

dudes can't make a rulebook to save their lives

2020-09-05 09:21:35 UTC

lol

2020-09-05 09:21:44 UTC

like it's amazing to me that they haven't lost the license

2020-09-05 09:22:05 UTC

given Ulysses literally lost the 40k license over taking too long to release errata

2020-09-05 09:22:25 UTC

I guess it's because Topps doesn't really give much of a shit as long they are making money off it.

2020-09-05 09:23:04 UTC

Which I find it interesting that a baseball trading card company bought the rights to Shadowrun.

2020-09-05 09:23:26 UTC

Capitalism at it's finest

2020-09-05 09:23:33 UTC

still it's just wild because you can tell that Catalyst was more worried about appearing woke enough than they were about giving you a functioning set of rules

2020-09-05 09:24:10 UTC

Oh, so they decided to go woke huh.

2020-09-05 09:24:31 UTC

I mean trannies and shit were always part of shadowrun as a setting

2020-09-05 09:25:02 UTC

Well, it is the future.

2020-09-05 09:25:25 UTC

So I'd kind of expect there to be a lot of degeneracy.

2020-09-05 09:25:33 UTC

but if I'm remembering right, they spend a shitload of time in the 6E rulebook talking about shit like "It's okay if you want to play a nonbinary character!" meanwhile there are placeholder texts remaining in place of simple rules

2020-09-05 09:26:25 UTC

so it's like "Yeah whatever, the tranny stuff was always a part of the setting because it's a hellworld where capitalism went off the rails" gets outweighed by shit like this

2020-09-05 09:26:28 UTC

I mean, we can always just pirate 5th edition shit lol.

2020-09-05 09:26:38 UTC

Oh for sure

2020-09-05 09:27:40 UTC

I have honestly thought about buying the Shadowrun rights if I ever win the lottery.

2020-09-05 09:28:57 UTC

And just make my own company. Hire competent people, market the hell out of it and boom.

2020-09-05 09:29:31 UTC

I mean you don't even need to market it

2020-09-05 09:30:22 UTC

you just need a character creation chapter that doesn't require you to reference the index at least 20 times and do introductory calculus to figure out how to do the pointbuy

2020-09-05 09:31:20 UTC

that's basically why I stick to 5th Anarchy

2020-09-05 09:31:52 UTC

I like the character creation tbh.

2020-09-05 09:31:52 UTC

because the Anarchy ruleset is simplified sure, but all that means is that it's possible to make a character in under 30 minutes without downloading a program specifically for chargen

2020-09-05 09:32:15 UTC

Well, I get the whole crunching thing is a bit much.

2020-09-05 09:32:33 UTC

But I like the whole priority sytem

2020-09-05 09:32:34 UTC

Shadowrun's character creation mechanically wasn't awful, the primary issue is how Catalyst formats their books

2020-09-05 09:32:46 UTC

it makes character creation harder than it needs to be

2020-09-05 09:33:01 UTC

solely because you constantly have to flip back and forth skipping through entire chapters of the book

2020-09-05 09:33:25 UTC

to the point that most people I know just use Chummer unless they're using the Anarchy rules

2020-09-05 09:33:38 UTC

I used chummer as well.

2020-09-05 09:33:43 UTC

because the crunch on its own wouldn't be bad

2020-09-05 09:33:49 UTC

if the book didn't have such awful formatting

2020-09-05 09:34:13 UTC

Yeah, it comes down to a formatting thing.

2020-09-05 09:34:59 UTC

Instead of making a new edition they should just re-format 5 and boom.

2020-09-05 09:35:29 UTC

Maybe simplify the crunch and make 5.5

2020-09-05 09:35:43 UTC

that was Anarchy

2020-09-05 09:35:46 UTC

But nah, they won't do that.

2020-09-05 09:35:48 UTC

simplified 5E

2020-09-05 09:35:49 UTC

huh

2020-09-05 09:36:11 UTC

but nobody's ever heard about anarchy because they put zero effort behind marketing it

2020-09-05 09:36:36 UTC

and most shadowrun purists don't like it because "It's too simplified"

2020-09-05 09:36:59 UTC

tl note: still takes at least twice as long to teach to somebody as Savage Worlds

2020-09-05 09:37:43 UTC

Not to familiar with savage worlds.

2020-09-05 09:38:48 UTC

real simple ruleset, setting agnostic to the point that they provide you with all sorts of rules to make your own races, worlds, etc, then proceed to say "By the way you don't need to follow these rules if you want to make some broken super race, up to you."

2020-09-05 09:39:07 UTC

Huh

2020-09-05 09:39:14 UTC

Very interesting.

2020-09-05 09:39:22 UTC

your stats and skills are represented by dice rather than a number that provides a flat bonus, all rolls come with a wild die

2020-09-05 09:39:41 UTC

so every stat and skill levels up in steps from d4-d12

2020-09-05 09:40:53 UTC

Sounds cool

2020-09-05 09:40:58 UTC

and no matter what your stat or skill is, you throw that die and a d6 to go with it

2020-09-05 09:41:25 UTC

and any time you roll a "crit", the die explodes and you roll again and add to the total

2020-09-05 09:41:38 UTC

Regardless of Shadorun's faults, I still like the game regardless.

2020-09-05 09:41:40 UTC

tends to lean toward very pulpy/actiony sort of games

2020-09-05 09:41:51 UTC

Interesting.

2020-09-05 09:42:00 UTC

but I like it because it's very easy to teach somebody

2020-09-05 09:42:04 UTC

Sure

2020-09-05 09:42:34 UTC

Actually, I remember making a character for savage worlds.

2020-09-05 09:42:42 UTC

But didn't really play.

2020-09-05 09:42:52 UTC

though something that's good or bad depending on how you look at it, it's *very* difficult for your character to actually die

2020-09-05 09:43:40 UTC

like the default difficulty for any given task in the game is to roll a 4 unless it's contested

2020-09-05 09:44:05 UTC

so if you have a d6 in a skill, which would be considered wholly average, you've got a 75% chance of success between your skill die and the wild die

2020-09-05 09:44:22 UTC

huh

2020-09-05 09:44:42 UTC

Yeah I think I am starting to remember some of this stuff.

2020-09-05 09:45:04 UTC

I liked the system enough to fund the most recent edition of the game

2020-09-05 09:45:12 UTC

Oh

2020-09-05 09:45:15 UTC

twice technically

2020-09-05 09:45:24 UTC

because I paid $20 during the kickstarter for a digital edition

2020-09-05 09:45:52 UTC

So it's out?

2020-09-05 09:45:52 UTC

then I gave my best buddy $50 for him to upgrade to the highest reward tier in exchange for the leatherbound signed hardcopy of the rulebook

2020-09-05 09:46:08 UTC

That's nice of you

2020-09-05 09:47:04 UTC

he benefitted too, because with my $50 it basically meant he was only paying an extra $10-20 and doing they meant they threw in a full second set of the various cards and benny tokens and such

2020-09-05 09:47:22 UTC

if there's one thing my friends and I are good at, it's pooling resources to exploit good deals

2020-09-05 09:49:09 UTC

Huh

2020-09-05 09:51:11 UTC

but ye, new version's out, it's called Adventurer's Edition, they've taken to shortening it to SWADE
