As a New Yorker, I work as a Doorman on the night shift. It takes me about an hour and a half to get home. When I leave work, it's midnight. All I have is a taser, cause it's more or less all I'm allowed to own. Will that be enough to stop someone from stabbing me? Maybe. I'm a big dude. Will it be enough to stop two people? Probably not. And when I hear 'Defund the police' in a city like mine, a chill runs down my spine. It's almost as if people forgot the thick criminal element in this city, who are emboldened by the words 'Defund the Police'. In any case. I'll still work. And if the night comes where I have to defend myself, I will try my best. But I still fear for New York.

the only exception to that rule is if the rioters attack the home
they just protested down the street of a private zone...ken and karen didn't own the private zone or they woulda had legal right to fire at them
over a decade ago...a local store owner shot a robber who was well outside the store..but the store owner shot from the store...and got off free of charges...the family tried to bring it up in a civil case of wrongful death
the killed robber was multiple offender with history of violence
anyway..during the actual robbery...held a gun at store owner and witness, store owner couldn't access personal weapon for self defense during the in-store robbery
as the robber was escaping on foot, got shot 1x and ended up dying 1/2 block down the street
