Oh, dang! The suggestion worked!
It did, now dont abuse
@dastenhero lmao I know it's kinda nice that this server listens to its members, I suggested something and it was implemented and I was all๐ฎ
Same here! Wasn't sure if it was going to work!
So, what has everyone been writing?
I've written around a 150 page novel. I wrote it from when I was in like 4th grade to 7th grade. Looking back on it now, its interesting to see how my vocabulary and grammar expanded from the beginning of the book to the end
Only reason this one took longer to implement is because we had a similar channel awhile back, and we were wary on bringing it back, but we are always open for suggestions
Guys I've been concerned about my career as a writer. That basically I have this one story off of my head that a lot of the characters are gay but I do not want to push a political agenda. The only thing that I just want to basically say is that "so what if they're gay? who cares." And I am afraid that with me just having gay characters in there alone somehow looks like I am trying to push a political agenda. So can somebody help me of the fact I have really bad loathing self-doubt right now!
If the entire story revolves around people being gay, then it will look political
If you include gay people, but actually have a compelling plot and a good story, then at most people will see your book as woke
Depends on how you write it
I have some experience with helping others write characters and expand on their plots
Bruh. Really!?
If you want them to be Gay, just try not to make it be their defining character trait
There's only like four or five main gay characters I could think of in my story.
EXACTLY
They can be gay, or whatever you make them, as long as their character isn't "Im gay so respect" youd have a shot
Make sure you dont have to many main characters
Indeed.
Depending on the story, 3 main protags and 1 main antag is usually a good formula
Indeed. And it always depends on what form of fiction are you writing on. This form of fiction that I'm writing on is high fantasy. Basically meaning that it's fantasy that takes place in a different plane of existence.
That sounds interesting
I'm glad that sounds interesting!
See the high fantasy part the setting part is what makes it interesting not the part of some silly trait that the characters have!
Yeah, just dont throw in Gay people to be woke, make them have a purpose lol
For a good look at how gay people can work, look at Nick from the Rick Riordan Percy Jackson series, hes a gay character, but it really doesnt affect the story, of course Rick, later has a Bi character in a later series, but it goes along with the story and works with it
True! Well I guess you could say my main core reason why I made the characters gay is that because I kind of want it to be about like a metaphor of being different on different levels. And also I did give a few negative traits to my gay characters for the fact that they are gay. For an example to two gay male characters in my story don't understand women so they kind of appear very sexist to women.
I am glad about that! Like I said I'm just having a moment of self-doubt.
Yeah, I feel like writing them naturally and just like everyone else is the way to go
A huge misconception out there is that all gay guys act the same. In reality, it depends on the subculture they buy into
That's actually really awesome! I'd love to have actually finished something; I lose interest quickly only to rediscover them later
Self doubt always gets in the way of what I write. Some good advice I heard though was that if you like it, someone else will too
The subculture that the two gay men of My Story fall into is basically being the super buff manly men. Like that of Arnold Schwarzenegger and all that.
That will definitely set it apart in a good way
Indeed. my fear is that people will think that I'm stupid.
I rarely see that dynamic outside of LGBTQ fanfics written by members of the LGBTQ
So your going the "I pick things up then put them down"
Route
With the manly bodybuilder gays
Not stupid at all! That's honestly an underated protagonist type
Even though in the 1980s it was insanely popular! Stuff like Conan the Barbarian and Terminator and all of that!
I personally value when a story is told with a protagonist like that, which is funny since I am the opposite.
Exactly!!
Its a much different take
If they say its stupid, then maybe they just aren't good storytellers
Really!? Damn people are really missing out!
YOU AWESOME!
Whereas most writers go the "We need to protect feminine men and femboys," you're paying attention to character types that are in the culture that aren't mainstream
It's hard for people to wrap their brains around the idea that not all gay men act traditionally feminine and flamboyant (see Marvel fanfic)
Mostly because it's what gets written over and over again
I think you're tapping into something interesting because of it
Hot damn!
Its a different take that many people wouldn't want to try, since it breaks the mold
^
Damn! I am a fucking genius!

I may not be a great writer on my own, I suck with dialog, but I like to think that I can help with plot or characters
In the end you have to believe in your story, and do your best to make it work
Thank you!
I suck at dialogue too ngl ๐
I just saw this chat, this is just what I need!
Awesome man, we'd be happy to help
Hell yea bro!
Oh nice it's here
I would like to write something, its just I have so many ideas but cant really connect them
I donโt have any original ideas. Itโs rough.
Oh boy this server will be interesting
I want to write about importance of Truth, Tradition, God, and Real Men.
Sounds promising.
I love the Time period 1770s-1880s, kinda general ikr, but there are certain aspects of those times that I like and relate to, so I would like to make a "setting" of that period, but write about 2000s+
I want to use real events, legends, myths, and hypotheticals, so... yea.
as a Christian, I am told to wait and pray, but with all the **** that is going on, it just makes me squirm, and I need to find a way to channel my thoughts
and as I said, I have plenty of ideas, and always finding inspiration, but they are only bits of chain, they need to be linked together
I can relate with that
I can relate with this as well
I always want to create something beautiful and God-honoring but I'm unable to make the beauty fit inside of a story
and before I forget, was this chat made today? I haven't seen it before
yep!
awiesome!
and yeah, I get the historical fascination! I'm actually trying to figure out a story about a young Christian lumberman and a young motherless daughter he meets up in Northern Wisconsin during the logging boom
cool!
The story ends in tragedy - it's a bit of a rehash of Daniel and the Lion's den in a way except with a tragic result
but I basically only have the ending and one of the mid-way scenes down
you have a guy who's not like everyone else and unashamedly so hanging out with a girl who's in her early teens. It's platonic, but rumors spread fast. He's drowned in a river during the climax by some guys who get drunk and decide they've had enough of him
the problem is that I don't know what message I'm sending with this story
I hate when dark events are purely for entertainment and I don't want to go that dark without a good reason
especially since I'm someone who has had a very cushy life and has never been subjected to typical tragedy
YAY! New channel! <:troll_face:726878856585281557>
yup!
SAME
the other thing that's super hard for Christian writers is making sure your story actually honors God
I would like to make a story that starts like a disney princess cliche, but its a "woman" who doesn't want to be a princess, and through her journey, she finds who she truly is, and grows in her faith in God, opposing a tiranical country
but I don't know if it will come to anything
which seems super weird to most people but I can safely say, the last eight years of "writing" (roleplays, plot ideas, and the occasional R-rated fanfic) have not been God-honoring at all and usually are overly dark, packed full with controversy for the sake of it, and written with little experience of the real world
I was a shock value writer and I regret it
wasn't necessarily explicit as my peers who *definitely* didn't understand it but still was searching for intense reactions about things I didn't understand or research
that's actually pretty lit
I'd watch it
I see what you mean, and im glad I didn't go down that rode
thanks
