Nice!

2020-11-14 22:24:33 UTC

I missed a shot on a big fuvking doe. Big enough that if I had shot and not checked for antlers I would have had her.

2020-11-14 22:24:51 UTC

Pissed me off

2020-11-14 22:25:54 UTC

The yearling was behind her but ran off when I shouted trying to get the doe to look at me so I could shoot

2020-11-14 22:58:29 UTC

I am dead. My dad just shot my fucking ranger in front of my stand trying to hit the 14 point buck that I just killed.

2020-11-14 22:58:50 UTC

Imma take a picture once shooting time is over lol

2020-11-14 23:06:50 UTC

Lmao

2020-11-14 23:07:23 UTC

You need to be more thankful I hunted probly 50 hours last year and only saw a little doe

2020-11-14 23:33:46 UTC

2020-11-14 23:53:23 UTC

Does anyone else use this? It works really well. You can get it at tractor supply and bass pro shops. This one's a 5 pound bag which you can get for like 15 dollars and I also have a 15 pound bag of apple which costs 30 dollars.

2020-11-14 23:55:52 UTC

I also have a off brand called c'mere deer. It still works ok but not as good as this one it's worth spending the extra money

2020-11-15 00:02:18 UTC

Big and j is also good

2020-11-15 00:08:56 UTC

@Winnie37a might have to try that

2020-11-15 00:33:16 UTC

I think the persimmon is best

2020-11-15 02:30:24 UTC

> You need to be more thankful I hunted probly 50 hours last year and only saw a little doe
@Winnie37a yea but the ranger was $22,000 and is 4 months old!

2020-11-15 02:33:17 UTC

Iโ€™m talking about seeing deer lol

2020-11-15 02:33:17 UTC

We just finished getting that buck done. Gonna get a picture of the ranger

2020-11-15 02:33:25 UTC

Donโ€™t get mad because you didnโ€™t shoot one

2020-11-15 02:33:44 UTC

Where was it hit tho

2020-11-15 02:33:58 UTC

Ah. This year I have seen more deer than any year prior.

@Nyx The Alpha Wolf nice bow. I have been looking for a new one would you recommend that one

2020-11-15 03:46:49 UTC

That bow must be a new style recurve compound bow. Looks wack honestly, but cool all the same.

2020-11-15 03:54:22 UTC

@Knotty did he try to shoot through the car or something? <:KEK:726877368601411624>

2020-11-15 03:54:31 UTC

fr tho, that sucks man

2020-11-15 03:57:02 UTC

No he missed the damn buck by near 4 feet.

2020-11-15 03:57:18 UTC

I shot an instant after him and killed the thing.

2020-11-15 03:57:45 UTC

He fucking shot within 30 ft of my stand lmao

2020-11-15 04:03:46 UTC

wait he was shooting in the direction of your stand? for a deer? i mean 14 points is pretty good but shit.. o-o

2020-11-15 04:16:13 UTC

4 feet๐Ÿ˜‚

2020-11-15 05:25:29 UTC

@CrazyAwesomeNoobMan I highly recommend it, however it's best if you know you want a compound and recurve mixture, meaning you want to finger shoot a compound bow. if you don't like finger shooting, it's still a good bow that you can release shoot, but the main selling point of lever action bows is that you can finger shoot them. It's been highly reliable for me, easily modified for the weight, and feels great to fire. only downside is the price. The Oneida Phoenix is $1200, so not really a 'spur of the moment' buy, but I've been in love since I bought it. if you get a Oneida Osprey (which only comes in 30-50lbs) that goes down to $800

2020-11-15 05:26:22 UTC

I engineered and 3d printed a mechanism that allowed the drop away rest to be operated using the cams, instead of the cables or lever itself, since you cannot attach the rest to the cables on Oneida bows

2020-11-15 05:27:12 UTC

if you want a cheap option, there are other brands like Muzzy, but I haven't used them, and they look really sketchy to me, and are mainly for bow fishing

2020-11-15 05:28:26 UTC

> That bow must be a new style recurve compound bow. Looks wack honestly, but cool all the same.
@Knotty lmao, not new, but a really rare breed of bow all the same. It's an Oneida bow, which have existed for decades and are mostly famous for being on the CW Arrow show, but I really just love them for their performance and being able to finger shoot a compound style bow

2020-11-15 05:32:51 UTC

@sixfivebyfiftyfive thanks ^-^ I knew about the refraction, just need to practice at it when I get the accessory to do it on my bow, but appreciate the advice. I'd likely need advice on prepping deer after the kill mostly if anyone can help with that, or prepping the fish.

2020-11-15 05:50:35 UTC

fish are pretty simple. ngl, I rarely prep my own fish and I have never cleaned a whole fish before. this is mainly because I don't want to eat anything out of my local watershed due too heavy salt and fertilizer usage in my part of the country. that said, the most common method for cleaning fish that I see is to cut the head off right behind the gill flaps. You can also cut the fins off, but it's not super necessary in most instances. next, slice open the fish from the ventral side by running your knife from where you cut the head off to to tail. Just be careful not to rupture any organs lest you contaminate the meat. next, take a good sharp knife and shave the meat off the bones as best you can (this is assuming it's a bonier fish. some species are pretty difficult to do this on because they have smaller bones). Much like with a chicken breast, this should produce two filets with one being on each side of the fishes spine. Lastly, the easier thing to do is probably too pan sear it with the scales/skin still on. If you keep the scales on, cook the fish with the scales facing down. at this point, you can season it however u like (I usually just douse my filets in lemon juice or olive oil, salt, and pepper). cook it and your done. alternatively, you can bake it and that often works well too.

2020-11-15 05:50:48 UTC

@Nyx The Alpha Wolf watch a YouTube video on how to gut a deer. I had to watch one when I got that 14 pointer so I didn't fuck up a shoulder mount. I will post a picture when the mount is done!

2020-11-15 12:56:03 UTC

Fuck why is legal shooting in 5 minutes. I am with my fiance in her stand with a small yearling 500 yards out. Hope it stays gonna shoot if it does.

@sixfivebyfiftyfive thank you, that makes a lot of sense. very well detailed. and I will just to see the nuance, doesn't sound as complicated the way you put it

2020-11-15 16:59:12 UTC

Thats the one my fiance just got. 9 and 1/2 points, 176 lbs.

2020-11-15 17:01:17 UTC

Just got back from Polaris too. $12,000 to fix the side by side. Dad took out the electronics and sheared off part of the steering colum. Plus driver seat and everything behind it needs to be replaced. I just decided to buy a new one off the lot and told them to take the old one and refund whatever for trade in.

2020-11-15 17:01:49 UTC

So needless to say 2 hours and $26,000 later i am back in my stand with my woman lmao.

2020-11-15 17:05:05 UTC

One question for the hunters.

2020-11-15 17:05:17 UTC

What do you do with your prey afterwards?

2020-11-15 17:05:55 UTC

Do you leave them there, do you take them home to skin them like some people do? Do you eat them?

2020-11-15 17:06:16 UTC

<:Surprised_pikachu:726878373762301995>

2020-11-15 17:12:54 UTC

It depends

2020-11-15 17:13:25 UTC

Deer people eat and donโ€™t skin coyotes people skin and donโ€™t eat squirrels people do both sometimes

2020-11-15 17:15:00 UTC

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/776166188299714601/777582436891492352/image0.jpg

2020-11-15 17:15:12 UTC

This just looks like something youโ€™d see in a magazine or ad

2020-11-15 17:16:47 UTC

> What do you do with your prey afterwards?
@KyrosTheWarrior I leave mine lay usually until 9 or 10 am IF it is cold. If it is the end of the day I will wait until 1 or 2 minutes past legal shooting time before going to retrieve it.

Then again I haven't not dropped a deer where it stood when I shot.

2020-11-15 17:17:32 UTC

> Deer people eat and donโ€™t skin coyotes people skin and donโ€™t eat squirrels people do both sometimes
@Winnie37a I skin deer, and tan the hides. Some of my best blankets have deer fur.

2020-11-15 17:18:15 UTC

What does deer taste like?

2020-11-15 17:18:22 UTC

When I skin a deer I let it hang and dry in the freezer so a โ€œskinโ€ can form over the meat and that keeps all the moisture and flavor within the meat
