You can do keto if you want, and doing a diet with your SO can be helpful so you're both on the same page with grocery shopping and stuff, but ultimately you need to count your calories with something like myfitnesspal.
Most people try to just do keto and magically lose weight. I tried that once. It doesn't work unless you're also counting calories.
