Like I would say it does more damage to the conversation to fail to distinguish between, for instance, an adult who has intercourse with a 16 year old vs a 6 year old (particularly when the former is only regionally a legal issue). The term has more impact if it's specific and towards the severe end

but if you are a 30 year old is the same 18
