upstream color

2018-09-19 23:05:04 UTC

*colour

In regard to the bert and ernie video. And other color washing/minority pandering that goes on in media. The action of modifying an existing intellectual property vs creating a new intellectual property is a safe method of virtue signalling.

As in safe for those pushing the agenda. If the Character flops. Then clearly it is the audience at fault for being bigoted (or at least so they justify). However, if a new character fails. At least part of the blame of the character not gaining traction is given to the creator/community that pushed for it.

WOKE ^

2018-09-19 23:06:45 UTC

there is also an arguement that gets made that they want to use an existing property to get the instant recognition vs creating a new something they have to bring up in popularity to take off.

2018-09-19 23:06:56 UTC

It's that, and any new character would require effort unless their sole defining feature is that they are gay or whatever. They'd have to work to make it good to get people to care.

Re: time dilation space opera. Maybe they have an episode where they see a family basically hold almost a funeral for a son they won't see because they warped to light speed. Maybe they return to a base they visited in a prior episode and all of their equipment is obsolete but they don't have time to teach them how to use the new shit

2018-09-19 23:07:40 UTC

They don't care about making good characters that are gay. They care about making people watch movies with characters that are gay because they think that will make a big change in the world and everyone will be more accepting of gay people.

How would a society provide upkeep for spaceships that show up needing minor maintenance that are 200+ years old while still updating newer models?

2018-09-19 23:07:55 UTC

@Beemann stargate shows had a few good examples and uses of dilation

2018-09-19 23:08:03 UTC

Good shit

2018-09-19 23:08:32 UTC

didnt intersteller touch on time dilation a bit ?

2018-09-19 23:08:56 UTC

2018-09-19 23:09:01 UTC

Gunbusters had that sort of thing. Leaving for a mission and coming back and you missed your birthday, leaving for more that go on much longer than you expected and now your schoolmate is an adult with a kid near your age.

2018-09-19 23:09:23 UTC

2018-09-19 23:09:36 UTC

It also used gravity's effect on spacetime in the final episode when they created something like a black hole bomb

2018-09-19 23:09:42 UTC

2018-09-19 23:10:55 UTC

out of all the scifi shows i can remember over the years, i cant think of any show thats tried its hardest to be plausable as SG-1 did, they kept a military consultant on staff and heavily consulted science journals to get the newest concepts every year and work them into the show.

2018-09-19 23:11:18 UTC

i believe i have it somewhere

2018-09-19 23:12:02 UTC

I would like some opinions on a related manner.

For years I was an approved commentor at Gizmodo. I am fairly right wing, but because I respect those who I disagree with and refuse to slander them. I was never kicked from the platform.

Then on a recent comic review on subsitr i09. I posted a starkly contrasting d&c review that criticized the material without openly attacking any protected minorities/etc.

I posted the video without comment. And got flagged by a few people for hate speech.

I am now permanently muted (not even showing up in the grays) from Gizmodo and have taken the effort to reach out to numerous people at the publication to explain what I did wrong and almost every contact never received a response. The one helpful response I did get, went radio silent after they promised to forward my issues.

2018-09-19 23:14:34 UTC

NAZI DETECTED ^

2018-09-19 23:14:43 UTC

Did I do hate speech? Do I have any recourse? I have been very cordial

2018-09-19 23:15:07 UTC

tbh bro idk your prob fucked for having a differing opinion

2018-09-19 23:15:12 UTC

@Joe_Limon you will have to contact Gizmondo directly and go from there

2018-09-19 23:15:14 UTC

you went off the reservation

2018-09-19 23:15:16 UTC
