but outside of that
directing a musical entails making sure all the stage directions are properly followed
words ar eproperly pronounced
pretty much the stuff that comes with directing a normal play
but it depends if youre working with a live band then its reeeeally imprtant you know music
(ie theory and practice)
I can do a directors notebook, she said as long as I stick to my rubric
otherwise youre pretty much just a prodiction assistant
cuz teh director is the one thats running the show in the end
which with a musical
is centered around the music
Like I get there’s a hierarchy
and being a PA entails getting coffee and food and all that shit nobody wants to do 😛 but does need to get done
also settling interpersonal conflicts n shit
also shit nobody wants to do LOL
liek im not trying to discourage you im just lettin u know whats up with that shit cuz im both a musician and a producer/audio engineer and have worked with a few such productions
you have the right idea though
maybe find someone whos more musically inclined to co-direct with you
one fo the productions i worked on had two directors for that exact purpose
I have a person in mind, but I’m not sure how to approach it when she’d be doing her own musical
jsut because theres a few approaches you can use
IE: compiling songs that you can legally use (which for school is pretty much whatever you want) and writing a play around them
or using an already existing script
Maybe if I have off time I could talk about it
having to deal with teaching all the parts too, thats pretty important and is a big reason why you need to know abouut music shizzzz
I was thinking evening primrose, and I could find some people interested
especially if youre younger it tends to be hard to find people that can actually sing properly that arent suuuuper stage shy and can act
but also
its doesnt nessesarily have to be perfect because of that too 😛 its just going to be better if you do
Neat found a version with Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters
casting is important
also if youre directing you gotta be hella patient but you seem to fit the bill from the little amoust we've discussed
Well I’d be focusing around the original and be making financial changes
gotta have the gear for it which is somewhat specific in terms of having headset microphones and the wireless system that permits the performers to move around the stage, following the stage directions accordingly
Totally, teacher talked about investing in body mics for the show my friend was planning to direct
>casting
>not grabbing exclusively women and minorities from your social circles
XD LOOOOL yeah the casting couch is out of the question
>casting
>literally entirety of social circles are made of minorities and women
Not the casting couch, the Steven Universe method
Talent doesnt matter, only identity+association
also finding women that can sing act nd arent attention whores (pardon the term) so they can deal with not being the lead
