Where would it's value come from?

2018-10-02 00:54:23 UTC

Saying it's value comes from 'scarcity' isn't sufficient.

2018-10-02 00:54:42 UTC

ok

2018-10-02 00:54:47 UTC

Our Fiat currency's value isn't entirely based on scarcity

2018-10-02 00:54:53 UTC

its not

2018-10-02 00:54:53 UTC

It's largely based on confidence.

2018-10-02 00:54:57 UTC

fiat is based on trust

2018-10-02 00:55:02 UTC

Right.

2018-10-02 00:55:04 UTC

in your gov 😂

2018-10-02 00:55:07 UTC

Right.

2018-10-02 00:55:10 UTC

Scary as that is.

2018-10-02 00:55:16 UTC

well

2018-10-02 00:55:16 UTC

no

2018-10-02 00:55:17 UTC

would you rather trust open source that anyone can contribute?

2018-10-02 00:55:20 UTC

I'll push back on that.

2018-10-02 00:55:20 UTC

It only has transfer value if it has utility. If say, a business offered transactions in bitcoin it was probably because it was backed by exchange to currency

2018-10-02 00:55:29 UTC

It's not entirely just confidence in the government

2018-10-02 00:55:34 UTC

open source, anyone can contribute: the code says there's only 21 million

2018-10-02 00:55:41 UTC

Even if the government vanished overnight, people would still accept USD.

2018-10-02 00:55:56 UTC

Even if they didn't they would accept gold

2018-10-02 00:56:05 UTC

I was about to post a whole criticism to tim but now I'm wondering if I want to get into a debate

2018-10-02 00:56:12 UTC

With anyone rn

2018-10-02 00:56:14 UTC

Lol

2018-10-02 00:56:19 UTC

😂

2018-10-02 00:56:19 UTC

Post it in debate

2018-10-02 00:56:21 UTC

What a giant waste of time

2018-10-02 00:56:23 UTC

Go for it

2018-10-02 00:56:27 UTC

USD represents a share in the valuation of US goods and labor.

2018-10-02 00:56:45 UTC

That's the trust aspect of it.

2018-10-02 00:56:53 UTC

yes, and the USD is being printed at the whims of politicians to bail out banks during financial crisis

2018-10-02 00:57:02 UTC

Right.

2018-10-02 00:57:04 UTC

Which devalues the currency, you'll note

2018-10-02 00:57:06 UTC

while you suffer inflation

2018-10-02 00:57:30 UTC

It's not consequence-less

2018-10-02 00:57:40 UTC

And it's because the utility of the currency lowers

2018-10-02 00:57:56 UTC

the US dollar used to be good for gold, now i can redeem it for trust in God 😂

2018-10-02 00:58:26 UTC

But if you cannot expect your currency to be commonplace, for its acceptance to be assumed, then it is based on exchange to a standard that is

2018-10-02 00:58:33 UTC

not saying it's not doing good. I wish I had bought more in 2009 at 1:1 😛

2018-10-02 00:58:35 UTC

That's why people are trading for it

2018-10-02 00:58:45 UTC

Bitcoin is only as valuable as what you can buy with it.

2018-10-02 00:58:55 UTC

a'ight
