the reduction of it

2018-10-02 03:41:19 UTC

I'm not 100% familiar with military compensation to be honest.

2018-10-02 03:41:22 UTC

Parents get bamboozled.

2018-10-02 03:41:28 UTC

They didn't know what ritalin really was.

2018-10-02 03:41:30 UTC

It came highly recommended

2018-10-02 03:41:34 UTC

But I know you can get a surprisingly solid pension for surprisingly little time served.

2018-10-02 03:41:35 UTC

And people seemed to be experts.

2018-10-02 03:41:50 UTC

@pratel iirc in the USMC, if you were at a certain rank after a certain number of years still, they just boot you

2018-10-02 03:41:58 UTC

My parents weren't stupid, they just trusted professionals.

2018-10-02 03:42:06 UTC

@oprahsminge good to know.

2018-10-02 03:42:11 UTC

Do they still get paid though?

2018-10-02 03:42:12 UTC

They assumed other people were as honorable about their jobs, as they were with their own.

2018-10-02 03:42:13 UTC

like if I had stayed in and only been a corporal at year 8 id have gotten booted out

2018-10-02 03:42:15 UTC

FUCK NO

2018-10-02 03:42:15 UTC

That was the mistake.

2018-10-02 03:42:22 UTC

you need 20 minimum to get a pension

2018-10-02 03:42:23 UTC

That would make sense.

2018-10-02 03:42:36 UTC

If that's the threshold, it's fairly reasonable.

2018-10-02 03:42:53 UTC

Can you take a shortcut if you go through a service academy or something?

2018-10-02 03:43:08 UTC

its not that its unreasonable or reasonable. It's just the way that the pay scales scale upward so dramatically

2018-10-02 03:43:10 UTC

The whole idea of pensions, and being able to dangle the whole of them, makes me sick.

2018-10-02 03:43:27 UTC

Well they're basically dead at this point.

2018-10-02 03:43:29 UTC

and they pay out at high as fuck percentages of your paygrade

2018-10-02 03:43:32 UTC

Only the government offers them.

2018-10-02 03:43:54 UTC

@pratel what you mean take a shortcut through a service academy?

2018-10-02 03:44:00 UTC

If it's something you're promised, something that keeps you and your family ALIVE, you cannot just hold it over people.

2018-10-02 03:44:07 UTC

like pick up rank out of the gate?

2018-10-02 03:44:09 UTC

@oprahsminge that would make sense. I think alot of the people I've heard of doing this were doctors and educated people who were able to count their years in education towards their service.

2018-10-02 03:44:14 UTC

Yeah, basically.

2018-10-02 03:44:14 UTC

oh

2018-10-02 03:44:22 UTC

I mean I was enlisted

2018-10-02 03:44:28 UTC

i dunno how the officers worked

2018-10-02 03:44:31 UTC

They also got the education paid for by the state.

2018-10-02 03:44:43 UTC

and theres not a bunch of officers in the Corps to begin with

2018-10-02 03:44:56 UTC

less than most other branches

2018-10-02 03:45:20 UTC

Chair Force flies the highest (for now)

2018-10-02 03:45:23 UTC

@Timcast social justice simply existing is to far. A very mild form of social justice would be racial segregation and discrimination, a relativly mild form of social justice would be the KKK, a strong form of social justice would be sharia, nazi germany or the soviet union

2018-10-02 03:45:24 UTC

@Scribblehatch they gave out speed in field rations for some soldiers

2018-10-02 03:45:39 UTC

point is it may not be the best example of the military writ large

2018-10-02 03:45:43 UTC

USMC is weird

2018-10-02 03:45:45 UTC

Fair point.
