the changes to public spending from 2010 were choppy and uneven

the biggest problem with them was social care, which is paid for by council tax that was capped

despite the fact that everyone had been telling the government to move social care into the NHS

i'm not ideologically opposed to increased taxes instead of austerity, but you have to have a discussion about what spending is valid, what isn't, what taxes are fair, and what taxes are not

and nobody is prepared to have those discussions
