Venezuela didn't rely on oil as much as people think, the majority of their economy or, 85%, should have been okay. Also the U.S. had nothing to do with Venezuela's collapse, this is just stupid. We didn't put sanctions on them until after their collapse, due to their oppressive government, we had no real interest in their oil, as the U.S. already has enough oil, and we didn't do anything that lead to their demise, we even sent them humanitarian aid which they rejected.
This also doesn't explain how Canada and Mexico, who are close neighbors with tons of oil, also have survived. If the notion that having lots of oil and being close to the U.S. means your country will fall apart, then it's hard to explain how all of our direct neighbors fall in to this category and haven't gone the way of Venezuela, and it doesn't explain how Cuba, the Soviet Union etc. also all did poorly but their primary connection is socialism
