It is selfless
No
disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others.
there's no point in debating such semantics
Thats what altruism means
You are attempting to fulfill some inner need by helping others
Selfishness is GOOD
that might be true
Making it selfish
Making it misguided
You are not dealing with reality
Its what Rand called evasion
So there os a point
evasion is the most horrible thing one can do in life
you either accept that altruism is selfless, or you assume a human is incapable of acting selflessly. there is no middle ground and it changes little whichever side you pick
Rand said
Dealing with reality is vital
Charity isn't inherently selfish, altruism is because you're building an ideology around your own goodness. You embody it personally to fill an inner void.
You should be charitable when necessary and when it makes sense to be so
charity is altruistic, yes?
then some altruistic actions are selfless, yes?
or at least not bad for being altruistic
No, because the starting point is different
In altruism you start from "I am a good person"
Selfishness is good
You do not have a right to demand charity of me by the threat of violence
With normal charity you start from "this person needs help"
I. A good person
The best way to help people is with true capitalism
We do not have capitalism today.
this is what I mean when I say it's impossible to argue such a point. the only difference is your own conception of what the word's inner nuance is, and there's no real meaning in fighting for such obviously mundane points
Not everyone is willing to satisfy the sexual desires of [REDACTED]
@Greasy That would be true if it were just a word and not a school of philosophy
that phrase you just uttered, that has no meaning
