2020-03-09 12:03:43 UTC

and YT is powered by Adsense, also google

2020-03-09 12:03:51 UTC

Adsense is EVERYWHERE

2020-03-09 12:04:07 UTC

blogs, social media, websites,... everywhere

2020-03-09 12:04:38 UTC

if yt unintetionally associates an ad with a controversial video, google risks that company pulling out of adsense

2020-03-09 12:04:55 UTC

they'd rather kill YT completely and cut their loses

2020-03-09 12:05:28 UTC

I get the business case defense YouTube could make

2020-03-09 12:05:46 UTC

What pisses me off is for years these fuckers did nothing

2020-03-09 12:05:52 UTC

Not a damn thing

2020-03-09 12:06:05 UTC

and by rights, they and others suchas Discord have been blatently ignoring the laws in regards to mining the data of minors

2020-03-09 12:06:11 UTC

it's even in their TOS

2020-03-09 12:06:14 UTC

To prepare for getting fucked

2020-03-09 12:06:24 UTC

why would they?

2020-03-09 12:06:48 UTC

they were raking in money with little to no effort doing something they know was sketchy

2020-03-09 12:06:49 UTC

I would like to see youtube completely collapse

2020-03-09 12:07:02 UTC

To survive
To foster and encourage free speech in some other community

2020-03-09 12:07:10 UTC

and they also knew if the FTC came after them, they could just blame creators

2020-03-09 12:07:22 UTC

very old dirty business trick

2020-03-09 12:07:27 UTC

Jesus. Any reason at all.
To SPITE Google is a good enough reason

2020-03-09 12:07:38 UTC

YT IS GOOGLE

2020-03-09 12:07:50 UTC

same company, it's just a subsidary

2020-03-09 12:07:56 UTC

You keep saying that as if nobody is aware of that.

2020-03-09 12:08:10 UTC

so.. who would 'spite google'?

2020-03-09 12:08:12 UTC

Youtube created an automatic system of "copyright" claims that allow anyone to accuse anyone else of copyright infringement and STEAL THEIR ADVERT REVENUE and as far as I know, that system is STILL in place, it just doesn't make the news

2020-03-09 12:08:24 UTC

CYA

2020-03-09 12:08:42 UTC

they don't really have any way else to do it

2020-03-09 12:08:59 UTC

if they really followed the law, the payoff wouldn't be worth it

2020-03-09 12:09:15 UTC

Then the law is the problem

2020-03-09 12:09:16 UTC

hence the platform/publisher model that drives the internet

2020-03-09 12:09:37 UTC

if you are libel for users, then you can't afford the potential liability

2020-03-09 12:09:58 UTC

Someone has made a law that is so stupid it would compeltely destroy digital platforms if enforced fairly

2020-03-09 12:09:59 UTC

and u have no way of knowing what creators will be popular

2020-03-09 12:10:04 UTC

That;'s idiotic

2020-03-09 12:10:22 UTC

no, you have it backwards

2020-03-09 12:10:38 UTC

the platforms came ABOUT by BREAKING the existing laws as a rule

2020-03-09 12:10:49 UTC

The law is the first problem there and there are already ways around that. The first and most obvious way around these laws is not using YouTube for starters.

2020-03-09 12:10:54 UTC

which laws?

2020-03-09 12:11:06 UTC

as long as no one complained, the gov didn't get involved

2020-03-09 12:11:12 UTC

Copyright and COPPA

2020-03-09 12:11:17 UTC

lol

2020-03-09 12:11:28 UTC

Copyright laws are garbage

2020-03-09 12:11:39 UTC

perhaps, i kinda agree
