AGONY does have extremely good art direction
I liked that it was long, Milky, most PC single player games felt too short
just really shit animations and even worse gameplay/story
@Win Roe I didn't "really" like it. I only said it was a step in the right direction, but I still think there was a lot of room for improvement in it.
By the time they got to HL2 and the followups, stuff was way too short
I just don't like 2016 and Eternal... At all.

Like I said: it's just about turning the Doom Marine into Kratos, for all the weak, pencil necked teenaged nerds to live out their inner power fantasies with.
To them it's probably awesome. But to someone who isn't a pencil necked, teenaged nerd with inner power fantasies brought about by every day frustrations of powerlessness... It's not that impressive.

DOOM 3 was fine for the first 3rd but then tried to be more "DOOM" like which didn't work at all, then they did the level in hell which worked very well then it completely flatlined

@Win Roe Agony had perfect art direction though. WHich was my point.
I never said Agony was a great game. I used it as an example for art direction, nimrod.

If Doom Eternal had "looked" more like Agony in terms of art direction it might've been able to excite me
The more gothic futuristic-medieval style works very well IMO
But then Doom Eternal would also have had to done away with it's silly "glory kill" mechanics, and the arena styled combat segments.
I don't want to feel like some overpowered action hero in a game. I want to feel vulnerable, fragile and genuinely afraid of being able to survive an encounter with the monsters in the game.
Makes it more rewarding to kill them and come out triumphant.

And that's why I like Doom 3 more, despite it's flaws.
It's a power fantasy but you're supposed to feel like you deserve the power since the demons fucking destroy you if you play poorly
