We have free college (for 40% kids on the smarter side) in my European shithole, the education is sooooooo bad the only reason people are going there is some time off before the mandatory army time lmao

Free college is a great idea if your goal is to make a Bachelors degree as valuable as a high school diploma.

if college were free to you, and payment of whatever is demanded is certified from the government at tax payer expense then not only are they not incentivized to make that education valuable to you (because you are paying it) they are also incentivized to charge as much as they want
