I have no magic X-ray vision into someone's genetic makeup. If I had an adopted sister, and I did not know she was adopted, of course I would feel the same way.
You're taking what i said about genetics the wrong way
Well, I didn't do it on purpose.
I mean, we know, for a fact, that its bad mojo now because of modern science
Let me re-read what you said ...
Wait, so you are bringing it back to science.
So I did understand you correctly, no?
My feelings are not rooted in science.
The science behind it, whether its rooted in it or not, informs your decision that its a bad thing
The last few hundred years
a stigma has become attached to it
It's about engaging in that sort of activity with someone you share a familial relationship with, no matter how closely or distantly related.
*because* of now understood science
No.
That is exactly the point I disagree with you on.
laws against first cousin marriages are only a few hundred years old
I felt this way before I even understood any of the science.
i'm not saying YOU
If we could figure out a scientific method to procreate without the adverse genetic consequences, it would make no difference to me.
Wtf
Did I just wake up too
Sorry, I know that is a sore spot for you.
Don't want to open old wounds.
In the last few hundred years, people have become more scientifically aware that mating with close gene pools is bad.
That has caused a social stigma to be attached to the very idea of it.
That stigma, is the culture you and I were raised is, which is what forms *our* opinions of it.
You keep bringing it back to the gene pool.
I am actually getting the sense I did not misunderstand you, in fact.
You are completely misunderstanding me
Okay.
I'll try again after my coffee.
Incest is wrong
you're fixated on me saying that you're opinion is rooted in genes, which is not what i'm saying
But you are saying that most other people's opinion is.
Doesn't matter if there is love, or if people use to do it
I'm not saying that.
I know that my example is anecdotal, strictly speaking, because I can't tell how others feel, but for me it's a visceral, automatic response that I believe many others must have, too, regardless of their knowledge of genes or recessive alleles.
i'm saying there was a domino effect that leads up to your (the modern) opinion on incest.
that chain of dominos leads back to a growing stigma being attached to the idea.
Well, I keep finding the same conflict in our reasoning, but maybe I just have to reflect on it more.
Think about like this, sex is meant for reproduction
Either way, all that "suggar daddy" talk has been around long after people understood the consequences of incest.
