Scientists literally only get their degrees by memorizing things told to them
no, the socratic method did, not critical thought
If there was a flaw in what they were told to memorize, they'd be wrong forever
and that is what is happening
that's why we're fucked for having standardized systems
If scientists just memorize, why the fuck new stuff appears. do they just remember it @Gilgamesh
I think critical thought is the most basic form of rationality. It's easy, anyone can critisize
And it's been around for a long time
Scientists regularly investigate the assumptions of the past.

Isn't the socratic method within the realm of critical thinking though?
new stuff appears because they convince the morons who only memorized, some of them are willing to make shit up
How do you think we figured out that we aren't a geocentric flat earth
fucking hell
A car got invented
Is it made up
No
Socratic flips to a right brain thought more often, when a new question is asked
the vast majority of scientists are the same as new college students
Or is critical thought something different and specific compared to the idea of critical thinking as a whole?
we're not talking about cars, rouqen
we're talking about wild speculation
We are talking about science
A problem with the education system doesn't invalidate the scientific method
A car was a big progress leap
Bad scientists don't disprove science
right, i guess science has become wild speculation, you're right
we're talking about beer actually
god damn
Yeah pretty off topic guys
Theoretical physics is wild speculation
"Cars aren't science"
True
What else isn't science, electricity maybe?
Semiconductors?
Wild speculation doesn't have to be a bad thing if once you make the speculation you test it. If you find out something weird happens that you speculated you can uncover truths about the world.

That's all engineering rigfht? Which is applied science?
