Like, if you had a home automation system, what would you want it to realistically do?

my coffe maker has a clock and a start timer so no need to automate it, my lights have either sensors to turn on/off or timers to do so, my crockpot just runs all day... the hell would I need with an automated home more then what I have?

Open/close windows/blinds and run/stop AC based on weather, perform security, maybe control lights, give morning weather reports and traffic reports in real time?
