here's the TL;DR

They were doing Ultimate Marvel as another universe

a more "grit and realism" take on the marvel universe

so they had the freedom to fuck around

they decided they wanted a new Fury, and asked Sam Jackson if they could use his likeness

Jackson said sure as long as he gets to play fury in the movies
