Taxed this off Facebook.....i shoulda thought of this.
Domino effect:
1. People worried about having to stay in their homes for a long time understandably decide they should stock up on things like toilet paper.
2. Other people see these goods flying off the shelves and think (again, understandably) they should stock up because soon it'll be gone and there's no telling when it'll be available again.
3. It's all gone and everybody's mad at 1 and 2.
There is no point getting mad at these people. This is going to happen every single time under these conditions.
But these conditions aren't necessary. It's easy to stop and even reverse this effect.
Consider a 2.5: Another group of people who anticipate the disappearance of the good, and decide to stock up for a different reason: to have more than they need, and sell it at a higher price.
Everybody *really* hates these people. But if they succeed, they short-circuit #3 - it's not all gone. You can still get toilet paper. But how much are you going to buy? You probably wouldn't spend your whole paycheck buying 6 months worth - you buy what you need, and so do a lot of other people, who otherwise wouldn't have been able to.
But that's not the best possible solution. Mr. 2.5 is just arbitraging an inefficient market, to (nearly) everyone's advantage, but the secondary market he creates is also inefficient, because he doesn't own a big box store for distribution - his customers have to find him somehow, or he has to find them.
.
The best solution is for retailers to raise prices. Now the #1 people slow their roll significantly. #2 people go away altogether because there's no reason to believe it's going to run out. 2.5 has no opportunity to arbitrage an inefficient market, because there is no inefficient market. #3 never happens. Everybody wins.
The universal objection is that some people can't afford to pay 5-10x for toilet paper. I don't understand this argument. Right now it doesn't matter whether you can afford it, because it's not even available if you can pay 1,000x for it

Ironic most of the reasons we’ve done as we have he asked me what we should do and I quite don’t understand why he would trust a child with those things
You seem smarter than the average kid. Level with him.
