I mean the people that served in the peace time are usually called "reservists"
This is the type of question that never crossed my mind before
uhm here in the UK you have full time and reserve (part time)
in the us you also have full time an national guard or am i mistaken
Probably "veteran" definition may vary from country to country
yeah, to me and peeps i know it means depolyed
I know that someone who was in the warzone does qualify as a veteran for sure
But then again, where you draw the line?
you could be fighting by commanding a drone back in the UK so the lines are a little blured now
If you were stationed on the ship 1000km away from the war, but your planes from that ship did enter the warzone, are you a vet now?
not sure about 1000 km away, but if your launching aircraft or cruise missiles i would think so
Not that I need to know this differentiation, but I am curious now
I was in an actual warzone once

I know a serbian woman, when she was a child she could hear bombs being dropped close by
she was did not really understand what was going on at the time tho
Basically my mom passed me to my uncle, he passed me to my gramps, gramps passed me to his neighbour by the name Shamil, and he was attending that wedding in the literal warzone
My family is amazing
I saw planes fly by and by the sounds it was a bombing raid. The helicopters that flew above were close enough to read their number on the side
Almost everyone at the wedding had guns, and they fired them in the air to celebrate
Then the wedding packed into several cars and went drunk driving while still firing guns in the air
@CJH thanks for your insight, I'm AFK cleaning up my apartment, if I'm not on, which is likely, have a great rest of your day folks!
One of the cars collided head on with a random unrelated car on the road
interesting wedding tradition, not sure you would get away with that around here
Nobody was injured luckily and the occupants of that smashed car were invited to the wedding party, and *they accepted*
all ended well then
I swear, after i got back it felt so surreal i was pondering if I have dreamt it all up
But I still had the sweets from that wedding to prove otherwise
Oddly enough I had no fear at the wedding. It hit me only much much later that it was "kinda dangerous"
I was eternally amused and baffled by a very fact of the wedding celebration happening despite a bombing run +
People truly living in the moment
well when your very young those sort of things are not really something that one can really comprehend fully
even it if was the norm for adults
