In economics standard of deferred payment is a function of money. It is the function of being widely accepted way to value a debt; thereby allowing goods and services to be acquired now and paid for in the future. In capitalism you can monetize your debts and trade them, alleviating yourself of the effects of your debt and thus virtually becoming debt free, in the US the federal government outlawed the practice of issuing currencies by any party other than the federal reserve, so you're stuck in the debt they forced upon the citizens of the US.
