@CasualSailor edison didnt invent the first lightbulb

2019-02-09 18:07:57 UTC

It's not like I have any feelings of hatred for how military is the seed of it all, it's just the way it is and makes sense too. The ultimate incentive is always survival.

2019-02-09 18:07:58 UTC

that's a fact/

2019-02-09 18:08:12 UTC

😄

2019-02-09 18:08:33 UTC

I remember reading about an crank trying to hook up a tube computer to a radio to talk to another tube computer a mile away. Didn't work at the time

2019-02-09 18:08:34 UTC

notice how government suddenly gets shit done when they have their lives in danger? <:TimThink:482277772497125378>

2019-02-09 18:08:36 UTC

and this is just different. the idea can exist sure but execution would have been impossible really.

2019-02-09 18:08:51 UTC

rly makes u thunk

2019-02-09 18:08:51 UTC

@Unwound Exactly. Think of all the medical advances that came from the Civil War. Our entire understanding of germs came out of the "need" that conflict created.

2019-02-09 18:08:53 UTC

if not it would take 100s of years or 1000s or 10s of thousands and eventually prob a govt sometime would do it

2019-02-09 18:09:12 UTC

not just medical, even things like boats. Civil war is what they call the first modern war

2019-02-09 18:09:19 UTC

Gatling gun

2019-02-09 18:09:27 UTC

but that's not how it happened. i'll say yea it could have been done without govt but no itwouldn't we have govt so that's not reality.

2019-02-09 18:09:28 UTC

etc, civil war was monumental

2019-02-09 18:09:48 UTC

you have to invent a nother reality to test that reality

2019-02-09 18:09:54 UTC

The first "Assult Rifles" were introduced with the Henry and the Spencer

2019-02-09 18:10:19 UTC

2019-02-09 18:10:23 UTC

@Unwound Yeah, and in order to make the guns and etc required factories, which lead to the industrial revolution. Wars create a lot of things other than distruction.

2019-02-09 18:10:46 UTC

another point ww2 sort of helped push crypto forward

2019-02-09 18:10:52 UTC

so without govt/war no crypto

2019-02-09 18:11:06 UTC

The two lasting legacies of War, technology and bloodshed

2019-02-09 18:11:12 UTC

it was very analog crypto

2019-02-09 18:11:19 UTC

ww1 and ww2 ushered in centuries of technology in like 12ish years

2019-02-09 18:11:23 UTC

but it was the start to our current defence systems

2019-02-09 18:11:56 UTC

2019-02-09 18:12:09 UTC

2019-02-09 18:12:16 UTC

2019-02-09 18:12:26 UTC

2019-02-09 18:12:39 UTC

2019-02-09 18:12:47 UTC

2019-02-09 18:12:51 UTC

2019-02-09 18:13:01 UTC

2019-02-09 18:13:10 UTC

2019-02-09 18:13:18 UTC

2019-02-09 18:13:25 UTC

that would be fuckin intence

2019-02-09 18:13:25 UTC

@Graylan | gray00 If you want to defend the necessity of gov't you can just say, without a gov't there would be no army to prevent the neighboring tribe from invading and taking your land. There would be no police force to prevent me from bashing you in the head and taking your stuff. And there would be no courts to allow you and I to settle our differences without the use of violence. I'm not an anarchist. Gov't has a role to play.

2019-02-09 18:13:26 UTC

lol

2019-02-09 18:13:30 UTC

and also overshadowed because there really isn't a "bad guy"

2019-02-09 18:13:46 UTC

well the bad guy was British in WW1... but nvm that
