@Renaar whats a good resource to learn it bitch
i have done some programming and a little chem that use systems of equations and matrixs
@RussianHacker it's a lot of bullshit mathematical proofs but at the same time it's worth it because of the crazy amount for applications
Amount of
@RussianHacker from my brain
@Renaar do i need alot of calc for it
@RussianHacker Linear algebra is great. I would avoid the MIT OpenCourseWare on it, though.
Do you need to know it like for a test on the course or for using it for calculations
Wait, is linear algebra not taught in HS?
Wasn't for me
Or usually, at least?
Gonna teach my kids it
i need it to do linear modeling
I learned it in early HS/ middle school
Then again I went to a private school
@RussianHacker like a bunch of linear equations
Solving?
Super easy
i need to do some proofs on why linear regression models and anovas work
I might have PDFs somewhere
Uhhhh linear regression models a little outa my league
What's it for?
My roommate might know about that
computational population genetics
Honestly the only difficult part of learning higher mathematics is the shitloads of ridiculously overcomplicated terminology
genomics actually
@RussianHacker I can tell you that a good linear algebra book should include determinants, eigenvectors and eigenvalues, characteristic polynomials, principal value decompositions and possibly least squares fitting, along with the basics like dot products and the Cauchy-Schwartz Inequality (but then, determinants are also basics).
Possibly other topics as well.
@gbol annoying, I want to know the application but I have to learn the mumbo jumbo of the definitions where they nitpick every letter
isnt least sqaures fitting a patial derivative?
optimized to zero
Gotta get your ridiculous english language 20 letter definitions to learn what should be pure logic @Renaar
@RussianHacker The equation for linear least squares fitting is beta = (X_transpose * X)^-1 * X_transpose * y.
oh i see, its multi variate
i had to do proof of this in my regressoin modeling class
MULTIVARIATE IS ONE WORD
- 10 POINTS
B+
-every college professor
lol if i can get C in Thoery of linear modeling class ill be happy
