Now what they *can* say is that it's the first Black hero movie who's actually *african* set in Africa

2019-02-16 18:42:12 UTC

That's a valid milestone to claim

2019-02-16 18:42:22 UTC

But that's not what they were all sayin

2019-02-16 18:42:47 UTC

interesting, I dont remember a backlash when people didnt like catwoman... shows you how much everythings changed

2019-02-16 18:43:48 UTC

Cause superhero movies weren't big at taht time

2019-02-16 18:43:54 UTC

they had a big push with the Superman and Batman movies

2019-02-16 18:43:56 UTC

then it went to shit

2019-02-16 18:43:59 UTC

I don't remember people crying misogyny when everyone hated that shitty JLo movie Enough

2019-02-16 18:44:01 UTC

and then it came back again with Iron Man

2019-02-16 18:44:15 UTC

Honestly even 10+ years later

2019-02-16 18:44:21 UTC

That first Iron Man is a solid movie

2019-02-16 18:44:28 UTC

I think that's why they made this universe work honestly

2019-02-16 18:44:35 UTC

They gave us a solid, three act movie, totally self-contained

2019-02-16 18:44:41 UTC

with only a hint of sequels after the credits

2019-02-16 18:44:49 UTC

and then they played it safe and self-contained for a few more films

2019-02-16 18:44:51 UTC

The only thing I wish they went into move with Iron Man was Tony Stark's alcoholism

2019-02-16 18:44:52 UTC

Id say the first spiderman remakes brought em back

2019-02-16 18:45:03 UTC

that's true wack you win on that

2019-02-16 18:45:10 UTC

and only when it became clear that they could make it work is that they started having fun with the MCU

2019-02-16 18:45:17 UTC

cameo crossovers and stuff

2019-02-16 18:45:25 UTC

mind you the one I watched as a kid was pretty cool

2019-02-16 18:45:33 UTC

that's why the MCU fundimentally works better than the DCEU

2019-02-16 18:45:41 UTC

the DCEU went into it trying to make an extended universe

2019-02-16 18:45:46 UTC

cant remember if it was an 80's movie.. or earlier

2019-02-16 18:45:56 UTC

the MCU started with a small handful of self-contained movies that were only tangentally connected by Coulson and Fury

2019-02-16 18:45:57 UTC

I still think they fucked up Nick Fury

2019-02-16 18:46:00 UTC

and THEN they did the teamup

2019-02-16 18:46:22 UTC

Nick Fury is not a wisecracking kitten petting goofball

2019-02-16 18:46:24 UTC

Yeah, MCU didn't start off with the idea of making a huge universe, which I think is part of why it worked. Everything was self contained, you could watch one movie without having to watch the others

2019-02-16 18:47:23 UTC

I kind of liked the idea that I think Universal had that they started with the Mummy remake of having kind of a horror universe but I heard that movie was complete garbage

2019-02-16 18:47:38 UTC

That was brutal too

2019-02-16 18:47:43 UTC

How do I put this

2019-02-16 18:47:46 UTC

the narrative was crap

2019-02-16 18:47:53 UTC

and they spent almost 20 minutes trying to hype the rest of the upcoming movies

2019-02-16 18:47:58 UTC

instead of just doing a fucking mummy movie

2019-02-16 18:48:35 UTC

But actually what I like about the MCu even now is that outside the Avengers movies, you can reasonably pick up the first movie in any of the serieses inside it and be fine

2019-02-16 18:48:49 UTC

you pick up Doctor Strange and you don't really need the other moves to like it

2019-02-16 18:48:58 UTC

@King Canuck do you think they should have done it more like the MCU when they visit the Collector and there were like...little hints scattered around about other things but didn't go into detail?

2019-02-16 18:49:04 UTC

Yeah

2019-02-16 18:49:14 UTC

THey tried to do that with a museum owned by Dr.Jekyll

2019-02-16 18:49:18 UTC

but they spent way too much time with him
