@AK When you're in a brawl with 50 guys and some on horseback you just need to poke and hope you hit someone. Swords are useless 8n battle context. Even in dueling it's hard to close the gap to a spear user unless he's a complete idiot

For the sword to have any actual damage its gotta be swung with some proper force
Quarterstaffs were also very effective, light and mobile, and if you add a bit of weight metal, blunt force trauma is a god.
