Im speaking of the observation of the moon itself. It never changes face. It rises to your left (or right) then sets to your right (or left). If the observer is on a ball and the moon was a sphere then you would see the sides of the moon

2019-12-21 01:34:29 UTC

again

2019-12-21 01:34:34 UTC

what is tidal locking?

2019-12-21 01:34:38 UTC

And parts of the back at times

2019-12-21 01:34:57 UTC

Again. Are we on a globe and is the moon a sphere?

2019-12-21 01:35:05 UTC

hang on

2019-12-21 01:35:13 UTC

what is the orbital period of the moon?

2019-12-21 01:35:22 UTC

or the proposed period?

2019-12-21 01:35:37 UTC

Tidal locking doesnt explain that

2019-12-21 01:35:48 UTC

so here is the thing

2019-12-21 01:35:59 UTC

over the course of a night, the moon does not move much

2019-12-21 01:36:01 UTC

you do

2019-12-21 01:36:15 UTC

the period is about 28 days

2019-12-21 01:36:21 UTC

a month

2019-12-21 01:36:28 UTC

that is where the name comes from, too

2019-12-21 01:36:40 UTC

If u moved then you would see the side of the moon

2019-12-21 01:37:06 UTC

So let me propose a though experiment to explain this

2019-12-21 01:37:06 UTC

Yet no one ever has

2019-12-21 01:37:20 UTC

the moon is far away

2019-12-21 01:37:24 UTC

really far

2019-12-21 01:37:35 UTC

So

2019-12-21 01:37:42 UTC

Shouldnt matter

2019-12-21 01:37:59 UTC

if a mountain is 20 miles from you

2019-12-21 01:38:15 UTC

If u r moving in a circle on a globe. The moon would rise and set and you would see different sides of it

2019-12-21 01:38:17 UTC

and you walk five feet in any direction

2019-12-21 01:38:25 UTC

will you see a signficant change?

2019-12-21 01:38:29 UTC

in the mountain?

2019-12-21 01:38:40 UTC

Thats not the same

2019-12-21 01:38:45 UTC

why not?

2019-12-21 01:40:08 UTC

If the moon is 1/6 or 1/4 the size of earth and 238k miles away and the earth is 25k.in circumference that would make the sides if the moon visible over the course of 12 hours on earth from the moon rising or setting

2019-12-21 01:40:44 UTC

5ft compared to a mountain is not comparable

2019-12-21 01:40:49 UTC

can you vc rn?

2019-12-21 01:40:54 UTC

No cookinh

2019-12-21 01:40:58 UTC

ok

2019-12-21 01:41:01 UTC

so

2019-12-21 01:41:07 UTC

in a globe model

2019-12-21 01:41:10 UTC

what is moving?

2019-12-21 01:41:58 UTC

Why dont you make a graphic that debunks or confirms the globe

2019-12-21 01:42:06 UTC

To this conversation

2019-12-21 01:42:45 UTC

ok

2019-12-21 01:42:57 UTC

give me, like, 5-10 minutes
