Nonargument

2019-12-23 16:32:35 UTC

or other reasons

2019-12-23 16:32:40 UTC

@RadRhys we aren't propagating earthquakes although some think the HARP machine causes some of them do to it's use. Rough origins of earthquakes is not knowing where they come from what causes them and what they do other then the destruction they cause to our man made structures so what you have said is we really don't know anything at all about them. Carry on

2019-12-23 16:33:12 UTC

what about all the water they found

2019-12-23 16:33:51 UTC

Which body?

2019-12-23 16:33:53 UTC

Chad

I don’t care about cause rn, that’s not within the bounds of the discussion. We’re specifically looking at why we can detect P waves going back to the surface.
And yes, knowing the origin is literally knowing where they come from.

2019-12-23 16:34:15 UTC

one problem here is some are thinking earth is a flat disk

2019-12-23 16:34:21 UTC

we don't what is underneath

2019-12-23 16:34:49 UTC

what if it looks more like this?

2019-12-23 16:35:29 UTC

i.e. large mass of known shape/size under the flat surface

2019-12-23 16:35:36 UTC

thats just another story @Flat Earth PhD

2019-12-23 16:36:04 UTC

Now we’re getting into Occam’s Razor. What’s more likely, an untestable mirror of sorts that would reflect P waves and change their speed, or P waves traveling through the Earth?

2019-12-23 16:36:07 UTC

stories are not evidence

2019-12-23 16:36:11 UTC

true but the point is we can't assume we know anything about the shape

2019-12-23 16:36:15 UTC

under the surface

2019-12-23 16:36:35 UTC

if you know nothing about something say nothing

2019-12-23 16:36:51 UTC

That’s not an argument

2019-12-23 16:37:05 UTC

That’s not even a defense

2019-12-23 16:37:53 UTC

@Flat Earth PhD did you run the moon test with a photovoltaic cell yet?

2019-12-23 16:38:12 UTC

I gotta go now, I’m done eating and this is my vacation

2019-12-23 16:38:36 UTC

@RadRhys you don't know where they come from it is just an educated guess. They measure the strength of them when they occur but that doesn't tell you the what, the why, or how to prevent them. SO you know nothing other then their best educated guess which hasn't change in umpteen years. Don't bring up ridiculousness then. Yes it is okay when you get schooled on your own model to retract and refrain from using it as a defense and you can simply concede a point by saying you don't know something. We do it all the time. Give it a try.

2019-12-23 16:39:01 UTC

@Sassy Undeniably it has changed

2019-12-23 16:39:09 UTC

Quite recently, in fact

2019-12-23 16:39:24 UTC

To explain the phenomena we see

2019-12-23 16:39:29 UTC

What parts of it.

2019-12-23 16:39:42 UTC

Plate Tectonic theory appeared in the 50s

2019-12-23 16:39:53 UTC

Was only actively adopted in the 70s

2019-12-23 16:40:22 UTC

Yeah Theory means you don' know and so you have a best educated guess so it is not a fact like I said

2019-12-23 16:40:31 UTC

No

2019-12-23 16:40:36 UTC

Theory means model

2019-12-23 16:40:44 UTC

what is a model?

2019-12-23 16:40:54 UTC

I know we just going to break down the word soup

2019-12-23 16:41:02 UTC

Scientific terminology is not the same as colloquial speach

2019-12-23 16:41:18 UTC

What is a Model definition please

2019-12-23 16:41:42 UTC

A model is an explaination which describes why we see the phenomena we do

2019-12-23 16:42:06 UTC

It needs predictive power

2019-12-23 16:42:41 UTC

And has to agree with all evidence presented OR be the most comprehensive model avaliable

2019-12-23 16:42:56 UTC

@Sassy Undeniably satisfactory?
