it would work if the planet were round - but easy observations show that it is not

2020-02-08 22:41:07 UTC

the universe may be round though

2020-02-08 22:41:10 UTC

and the math would then be applicable

The autumn equinox is upon us. On Saturday (Sept. 22), the sun will shine directly on the Earth's equator, autumn will officially begin in the northern hemisphere, and the length of day and night will be nearly equal across the globe ... or, "across the disc," if you're a flat-Earther. For flat-Earthers — the vocal online community of folks who believe the world is actually flat and science is a conspiracy — the equinox can be tricky to explain. Without axial tilt, the phenomenon in which the rotating, spherical Earth angles its poles toward or away from the sun, how can the changing seasons be reliably explained? How can sunrises and sunsets occur if the sun is constantly shining on the entire, flat surface of the planet? If the North Pole sits at the exact center of the world, can compass directions even exist?

you can, azimuthal equidistant checks out

2020-02-08 22:42:06 UTC

Very cool food for thought, ewe

@Drewski4343 any time

2020-02-08 22:42:42 UTC

I think the quest for a grand unifying theory between flat earth and globe researchers is an important one

2020-02-08 22:42:47 UTC

nobody is wrong or stupid

2020-02-08 22:42:51 UTC

just different frames of reference

2020-02-08 22:43:06 UTC

it means we have more to learn

2020-02-08 22:44:07 UTC

notice how the rig in the back is slightly lower to the rig in the front? curvature explains that

LMAO

2020-02-08 22:45:56 UTC

So if we’re all right, can we stop calling each other delusional, cultists and stupid?

2020-02-08 22:46:11 UTC

That would be nice

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GO TO <#538929818834698260>

2020-02-08 22:49:51 UTC

@DorgonIzFly Sort of. He was a pantheist. Believed in a god of sorts.

2020-02-08 22:50:17 UTC

would you like some quotes about the specific traits of his beliefs in the God of the Bible?

2020-02-08 22:51:47 UTC

Sure, but his Pantheism was fairly well known.

2020-02-08 22:52:26 UTC

there can only be one "God" otherwise the other "Gods" would be less than one .... pantheism is a joke and an illogical one at that

2020-02-08 22:52:48 UTC

if a God is less than another God its no longer a God

2020-02-08 22:52:48 UTC

Explain

2020-02-08 22:53:16 UTC

Depends on how you define ‘god’

2020-02-08 22:53:16 UTC

romans and greeks had many gods

2020-02-08 22:53:47 UTC

@DorgonIzFly What do you consider a god?

2020-02-08 22:53:48 UTC

he didn't believe in many gods.

2020-02-08 22:53:56 UTC

problem deals with human beings themselves. It is true that all human beings are connected to one another in families and societies in a vast complex web of interdependence. It is also true that all human beings are connected to the material world—the same elements that make up the human body are all taken from other things in nature. When a person eats and grows he assimilates his food intake into his body; he literally is what he eats. But there is much more to a human being than the body. There is the soul as well and all of the immense powers of reason, wonder and imagination that human beings have as well. Each of us think their own thoughts, has their own beliefs, reflects on their own experiences, fears, hopes and dreams. The obvious individuality and irreducibility of each human person is something pantheism cannot adequately explain.

2020-02-08 22:53:57 UTC

though it is only mythology now, it used to be believed
