I think it's a bit of both
Part of what makes America an experiment is that it's a nation with no real roots.
The nation was created by Anglos and unlike Europe there is no long linneage of monarchs.
There was talk of appointing a king at some point but they were worried that Europe would just make fun of him.

America was founded off the ideas of liberty it doesn’t need a king

A nation is of common culture language and heritage. The u.s does not currently meet these criteria and is thus not a nation

And colonial America was far superior

America is a nation of common heritage, everyone came to America with a dream and a goal and people mixed culture into America

There was a common language and culture.

Thing is that those things are inconvenient for some people so those things are being erased.

wait now that I think about it, there is no common American culture.
Somebody explained to me that there is no common Dutch culture either due to how isolated the cities are.

There is no American culture, but there is Texan and Appalachian culture.

I’ve lived in Germany and most people speak English but German is the primary language and is under no threat

Most people I speak mainly use US English.
The influx of US students and the government not giving a shit isn't helping either.

The thing with Dutch is that we're pragmatic.
"if switching to English makes doing business easier then we might as well switch to English"

I think Germans are more proud when it comes to maintaining their own customs.
