The Pharisees did not “manipulate” the mob, they were already an existing (and popular) school of thought which many common Jews subscribed to. When Christ came in declaring himself to be the Messiah, the people looked upon him with disconcertion, especially the Zealots.

Because I see no reason to only care for "our people" since "our people" is an what we make it to be, if your genetic family left you on the side of the road for dirt and someone who was not in the slightest related to you adopted you are fed you (lets say you were a child) and sent you to school etc, who **in practice** would you say is your family? I am not saying you would not try and make contact with your genetic family or that is wrong, but at some level you must think that people who helped you are "your people" if your a normal person in the head of course.
