wait but who

2020-02-19 22:26:55 UTC

wow he left

2020-02-20 01:13:34 UTC

@Sentient23
Sorry about the wait.
So since you're Catholic I'll skip the personhood discussion and jump right into assuming the zygote and fetus are a full person.
Given that we accept consent matters in the discussion (I'd hope so because I don't want you condoning rape) and we understand that sex and pregnancy are two seperate things you can consent to, and consent is something you can take away at anytime, the woman would have the right to revoke her consent to the pregnancy and could achieve an abortion from there.

2020-02-20 04:59:55 UTC

How do you separate personhood from consent? Consent to life is a right that aborted children are not afforded

2020-02-20 12:30:55 UTC

Assuming we're talking about consensual sex, consent was already given once sperm merged with the egg, creating life. She could've only retracted her consent by telling the dude not to cum inside her. But even then, I don't put value on consent more than i put value on the inherent value on human life

2020-02-20 12:33:48 UTC

Okay, but what if she never consented to being pregnant?

2020-02-20 12:33:57 UTC

^

2020-02-20 12:35:47 UTC

I'm sure that the vast majority of women today do want to have children, despite of how many children they want. What if they're not ready, or don't want to have children at all? Why value proliferation of mankind over the freedom of a human herself? You can find another woman who wants to have children - you don't need to force her to have them.

2020-02-20 12:35:51 UTC

I just said, I put more value on the inherent value of human life than on consent

2020-02-20 12:36:02 UTC

That's not good.

2020-02-20 12:36:07 UTC

Even if they get raped

2020-02-20 12:36:18 UTC

Or if the guy doesn't pull out on time

2020-02-20 12:36:35 UTC

Can you have sex without getting pregnant?

2020-02-20 12:37:01 UTC

Rape is an extremely serious crime, it should have very serious consequences, and the woman should have the right to choose whether to keep the baby or not.

2020-02-20 12:37:05 UTC

yeah but that would be immoral since natural law dictates that sex is for procreating rather than pleasure

2020-02-20 12:37:16 UTC

Well again, this is where we depart

2020-02-20 12:37:33 UTC

I put value on the intrisict value of human life, more than I put on the opinion of the woman

2020-02-20 12:37:39 UTC

Okay so you don't agree the two are seperate?

2020-02-20 12:37:45 UTC

which two

2020-02-20 12:37:56 UTC

sex and pregnancy

2020-02-20 12:37:58 UTC

That's not what nature "dictates."

2020-02-20 12:38:07 UTC

No

2020-02-20 12:38:17 UTC

And notice how i said "natural law" rather than "nature"

2020-02-20 12:38:22 UTC

Many animals and humans have been having sex for pleasure, other than impregnation.

2020-02-20 12:38:32 UTC

Koninos you evidently don't know what natural law is

2020-02-20 12:38:39 UTC

in This context, especially in catholic theology

2020-02-20 12:38:41 UTC

Okay sure, if that makes you sleep.

2020-02-20 12:38:45 UTC

lol

2020-02-20 12:38:50 UTC

What is natural law?

2020-02-20 12:38:55 UTC

sounds bs

2020-02-20 12:38:58 UTC

The natural law of Catholics?

2020-02-20 12:39:02 UTC

Yeah no thanks.

2020-02-20 12:39:50 UTC

You don't. Natural law is the knowledge of gods will acquired by analysis of the nature of certain things. Once you've deduced this, you oughta respect it and conduct your behavior within the domain of gods will whenever you indulge in such action, without excluding some things for the sake of others (i.e pregnancy for pleasure)

2020-02-20 12:39:59 UTC

@moira Natural law is a whole of steady, unchangeable moral principles which can also be referred to as a "conduct."

2020-02-20 12:40:15 UTC

Yeah that's an incorrect definition

2020-02-20 12:40:20 UTC

As a conduct that if humans break, they're immoral.

2020-02-20 12:40:26 UTC

That is true

2020-02-20 12:40:41 UTC

Who made this

2020-02-20 12:40:49 UTC

Who made what?

2020-02-20 12:40:50 UTC

Lol if natural law is the knowledge of Gods, then it doesn't exist.

2020-02-20 12:41:03 UTC

haha, fanny
