Goliath bird eating spider is pretty big

2018-12-30 18:59:47 UTC

there was a time actually during the carboniferous period when there were giant insects

2018-12-30 18:59:50 UTC

Then again there was a golden orb spider in Queensland Australia that pulled a green snake up into its web and started fucking eating it. We have spiders that eat snakes

2018-12-30 18:59:57 UTC

@Bonk enjoy making it to the car when it builds a nest ON your house

2018-12-30 19:00:02 UTC

2018-12-30 19:01:05 UTC

2018-12-30 19:01:15 UTC

Are we talking about upsidedown land?

2018-12-30 19:01:23 UTC

2018-12-30 19:02:19 UTC

How else do you explain eurovision

2018-12-30 19:02:25 UTC

Checkmate

2018-12-30 19:02:33 UTC

Spiders take in oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide like us, but they use tracheal tubes and "book lungs" that depend on diffusion through small openings which is much slower than our breathing system. And their blood is copper-based which isn't as efficient as our iron-based hemoglobin. So unless they did a complete overhaul of their respiratory system, a giant spider wouldn't be able to get enough oxygen to move around.

2018-12-30 19:02:36 UTC

Well I know when I’ve been bested

2018-12-30 19:02:52 UTC

they just cant breathe efficiently to be big

2018-12-30 19:03:17 UTC

That would take a few thousand years and there is no pressure for them to be bigger

2018-12-30 19:03:20 UTC

if the atmosphere was more oxygenated it would work

2018-12-30 19:03:38 UTC

but they have never been huge because of this

2018-12-30 19:03:50 UTC

Pressure as in evolutionary pressure

2018-12-30 19:03:53 UTC

Copper based blood pogchamp

2018-12-30 19:04:47 UTC

@YeetshirtNinja wasn’t there more oxygen in the atmosphere ages ago?

2018-12-30 19:04:53 UTC

Yea but if spiders were as big as say, dogs. How the fuck would we deal with them 😭
