oh yeah weapon spec is also cool
I have a concept idea working with my mate based on a homebrew pdf we found
specialise into blade (heavy) and you get a bonus (or don't get a negative) for that subtype but you can still use other blades
cuz like, someone who uses swords all day every day, why the fuck could they use a trident?
someone who uses a greatsword, how the fuck could they know how to effectivally use a rapier?
that shit
yeah
anyone can use a shortsword because it's just a fuckin metal stick
also my game has fucking small and long arms
just cuz someone can use a flintlock pistol dosent mean they can use a musket
but a batleth is a whole thing
yeah
shit needs revamp
i like that 5e is so simple. its easy to get new players hooked on tabletops
but some things infuriate me with how they work
we got steamrolled last week, tpk
so we're having a break from that campaign for a few weeks
last night we started playing Traveller
traveller? whats that?
it's a space setting with a pretty cool rule system
and you end up with a collaborative back story and an actual realistic reason why you know the party
instead of "we met in a bar"
there are a number of different career paths and you have to meet skill requirements to enter a career, once you're in a career you get basic set of skills and then you roll against that career's skill table or personal development
that takes place in a 4 year term then you can either stay in that career, move to a different career or go out adventuring
generally you'd roll 4 or 5 terms
to build up skills, money, etc
then go adventuring
at the end of each term you roll against an events table to see what interesting things happen
and you can work meeting the other characters into the event
you get a free level 1 skill for making a connection with them
you can die in character creation lol
You have created......... Death..... Well on to another character
So for anyone interested my serial sheet changer almost got punched by my parties tank, he gave himself 19 ac at the start of the session and instead of me having to call him out on his shit someone else did before I had to.
also, easiest way to mitigate this shit is just insist that your players supply a copy of their sheet whenever they level up
if your other players are also getting pissed off by his cheating they'll fully support this move
5e and believe me, i keep his sheet
It's just it doesn't survive 5 minutes with him without changes
I'm probably gonna boot him tho
