@Fitzydog how much to buy it

2020-02-05 13:18:23 UTC

@Antiboom that number hasn't been released.

I think it used to be a part of the drag strip next door, who they have had a special relationship with for a while, so they probably got a good deal via that avenue

The gay police is out to get you for the fashion crime you are wearing

@Fitzydog the dirtbike.

2020-02-06 00:05:04 UTC

@Antiboom time for another episode of 'tero learns something obvious about cars'

2020-02-06 00:06:38 UTC

since our last conversation about manually gear selecting on auto, i've been paying more attention to the gear shifts it does
and i've noticed that as you're accelerating, if you're still giving it tons of throttle at like 40km in 1st, it'll try to keep accelerating instead of upshifting - so you're going 50 in 1st at nearly max revs
but if you just step off the throttle a little it'll upshift and you can be on your merry way

2020-02-06 00:06:49 UTC

and same for like 2nd into 3rd at 70-90kmph

2020-02-06 02:06:05 UTC

@Tero higher revs provide more power, but keeping the revs lower consumes less gas, so your car balances depending what it seems like you wanna do

2020-02-06 03:57:22 UTC

@Tero That's called a 'kickdown'.

There's a literal cable attached to your pedal that tells the transmission when to drop down a gear when under load

2020-02-06 04:08:48 UTC

don't think that's what i'm talking about but that is interesting

2020-02-06 04:10:50 UTC

It shifts when you let off the throttle a tiny bit when gunning it, right?

2020-02-06 04:11:10 UTC

That's controlled by the kickdown cable

2020-02-06 04:15:58 UTC

it shifts up tho

2020-02-06 04:16:00 UTC

not down

2020-02-06 04:20:53 UTC

the kickdown sounds like it downshifts you when you're in low revs high gear, then floor it
i'm talking you're in low gear high revs, then let up

2020-02-06 04:27:46 UTC

oh yeah, that's the computer doing that

2020-02-06 13:59:29 UTC

It is due to kickdown switch in your gas pedal. It regonises the thorlett imput is on max and tries to keep pulling without chanching gear, to keep it going forward.
For ex. in soft grounds or really steep hill, trying to chance gear up might to end up on situation where the second gear is too long and car starts to stall.

2020-02-06 14:00:31 UTC

Or chancinh back to first, and then trying to chance second gear again, then chanching back to first, then again trying the second gear, back to first gear....
You get the point.

2020-02-06 14:00:54 UTC

More like "stamp down" switch.

2020-02-06 14:01:11 UTC

What car do you have?

2020-02-06 14:01:21 UTC

I have heard that thing before.

I'm just sat here wondering what car Tero has that it does 50mph in 1st gear

2020-02-06 14:12:17 UTC

Well, quite many sport cars can go 50mph (as us, who uses non retard units, 80kmh) with first gear. And older automatics with like 4 gears.

2020-02-06 15:16:20 UTC

@Broo TulsiGang 2024 πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ It's probably second gear, and he just doesn't notice the low speed transition from 1st

2020-02-06 19:14:20 UTC

@Tero regarding auto shifting, combustion engines have powerbands, peak hp and torque is usually higher in the rpm range but these areas are not necessarily the most economical. Auto transmissions try to predict what the driver wants to do, in general the more throttle you give a car the later it will shift as the transmission assumes you want acceleration over economy, less throttle and the transmission will try to maintain economy

2020-02-06 19:15:31 UTC

The kickdown function mentioned is when you suddenly use a lot of throttle, the transmission will drop a gear to increase acceleration as it assumes that's what is being demanded by the driver

2020-02-06 19:16:01 UTC

The lower gear being in a better power band for the engine and a better ratio for acceleration

2020-02-06 23:45:23 UTC

@Broo TulsiGang 2024 πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ mine can do about 50 in 1st, and it’ll do 70 in 2nd

2020-02-06 23:46:01 UTC

I can get nice and chummy with the 100mph speed limiter without ever exceeding 3000 rpm, as well

you'll be able to buy this one though

2020-02-08 09:53:20 UTC

that looks like a lambo had sex with a porshe

it looks like Adrian Newey the winningest guy in F1 before they gimped F1
