It was published standalone

2018-12-21 19:07:19 UTC

you think a journal would run this? lmao

2018-12-21 19:07:41 UTC

Journals tend to allow anything that was done properly to be published

2018-12-21 19:07:45 UTC

*generally*

2018-12-21 19:08:22 UTC

oh come on

2018-12-21 19:08:40 UTC

don't suggest that science has not been political since the 60s

2018-12-21 19:09:04 UTC

hell, when has it not been political

2018-12-21 19:09:39 UTC

I would avoid enshrining any institution with such trust, even peer review breaks down under pressure

2018-12-21 19:12:51 UTC

Im not saying its not

2018-12-21 19:13:04 UTC

But they could still get it published

2018-12-21 19:13:42 UTC

If you want to write this study off because it was self published be my guest

2018-12-21 19:14:00 UTC

I don't need to convince you

2018-12-21 19:14:42 UTC

Intelligence “is one of the best predictors of important life outcomes such as education, occupation, mental and physical health and illness, and mortality.” Source: http://www.nature.com/mp/journal/v20/n1/full/mp2014105a.html

2018-12-21 19:16:12 UTC

the significance of this is that it suggests poverty results in part from genetic predisposition to stupidity

2018-12-21 19:16:33 UTC

Partially?

2018-12-21 19:16:37 UTC

it is conjecture like your idea that genetics is unrelated

2018-12-21 19:16:46 UTC

I didn’t say that

2018-12-21 19:16:48 UTC

so don't take it over-seriosuly

2018-12-21 19:17:22 UTC

I’m really just saying that because someone is more likely to be one way, don’t assume that they are

2018-12-21 19:17:26 UTC

Human intelligence is highly heritable. Source: http://www.nature.com/mp/journal/v16/n10/abs/mp201185a.html

2018-12-21 19:17:58 UTC

then that is a completely reasonable stance

2018-12-21 19:18:31 UTC

it is easy to see that first generation black americans outperform the average native in intelligence and income

2018-12-21 19:18:38 UTC

because they are selected to do so

2018-12-21 19:18:45 UTC

And because someone is dumb doesn’t give them less rights or make them less human (I don’t believe you were arguing for this)

2018-12-21 19:18:52 UTC

of course not

2018-12-21 19:19:23 UTC

but if one were to make the reasonable assumption that blacks are probably significantly less intelligent than whites or asians on a genetic level

2018-12-21 19:19:40 UTC

one would have to make very different policy decisions

2018-12-21 19:19:51 UTC

Its way better to look at people on a person by person level imo

2018-12-21 19:19:56 UTC

Everyone is different

2018-12-21 19:20:03 UTC

that is a luxury we can't always afford

2018-12-21 19:20:09 UTC

though i do agree

2018-12-21 19:20:09 UTC

Even if there are some general trends

2018-12-21 19:20:39 UTC

Really all that I would argue is that civic nationalism is destroyed by this reasonable assumption

2018-12-21 19:21:01 UTC

you can't expect a people who are probably genetically less intelligent to pick up the torch of your society

2018-12-21 19:21:25 UTC

Also its good to note that africans are **really** diverse so its not easy to characterize the entire thing

2018-12-21 19:21:31 UTC

that is fair

2018-12-21 19:22:00 UTC

if you made studies to isolate intelligent peoples within africa you could attempt with success to integrate them

2018-12-21 19:22:55 UTC

generally speaking, I lean more to the idea that environmental factors influence iq more than genes. @Deleted User If I were you, I would be careful not to mix up pseudo-science with actual science. This stuff is controversial and for many people, it justifies racism and white superiority. Getting info mixed up with clearly racist anthropology and science makes you look racist and then ppl wont take you seriously

2018-12-21 19:23:15 UTC

^

2018-12-21 19:23:20 UTC

I am racist and I don't mix up pseudo-science

2018-12-21 19:23:35 UTC

remember that I told you to take any sociology paper with a grain of salt
