How is Alex Jones fake news
I didn't say he was, I said that's why he was shut down.
They said it was because it was hate speech. But come on. Is Alex Jones hate speech?
No such thing
Irrelevant completely.
He was shut down for being fake news, according to the people who shut him down.
He was being shut down for hate speech.
These are just words people use. You don't have to think he's reliable journalism or hate speech isn't real.
He was shut down for engaging in hate speech, which is a pretext for being fake news.
I don't know why the platforms banned him
They said it was because he spewed hate speech. The real reason (and they admitted it was a reason) was because he was spreading "fake news".

My point is that banning what you think is fake news sets the precedent for having that same power used against you.
that's true
Its really worrisome
The problem is that social media platforms want to use it like a publisher would, filtering out content that they don't like on the premise that they're protecting users.
But that's not how platforms work. This means assuming responsibility for all speech used on that platform.
There are separate laws regarding publishers and social media platforms.
When a social media platform acts as a publisher it should legally be recognized as a publisher so they are responsible for all speech that happens on their platform.
That's what they want after all. Unless their actual motive is censoring speech they don't like. But that couldn't possibly be it.
