To the extend that you're harassing them

2019-02-13 02:45:43 UTC

They're a whole conversation around that sentence

2019-02-13 02:45:54 UTC

ok so if I am calmly talking to you about how shitty you are, is that illegal?

2019-02-13 02:46:00 UTC

and it makes you cry and jump off a bridge?

2019-02-13 02:46:01 UTC

Here

2019-02-13 02:46:02 UTC

"Harassment is governed by state laws, which vary by state, but is generally defined as a course of conduct which annoys, threatens, intimidates, alarms, or puts a person in fear of their safety."

2019-02-13 02:46:24 UTC

yes that is the broad definition, not legal, of harassment

2019-02-13 02:46:25 UTC

If your speech is threatening, intimidating, or cause another person to cry in fear then that is harassment

2019-02-13 02:46:34 UTC

I don't literally mean that someone crying cause of something you said it harassment

2019-02-13 02:46:43 UTC

Anything can make anyone cry.

2019-02-13 02:46:47 UTC

That's absurd and you know taht you're misreprensting my point.

2019-02-13 02:46:53 UTC

no your point is silly

2019-02-13 02:46:55 UTC

"If you're making someone cry, that's harassment"

2019-02-13 02:47:06 UTC

That wasn't my point

2019-02-13 02:47:07 UTC

we're talking from a legal perspective yes?

2019-02-13 02:47:10 UTC

you said that

2019-02-13 02:47:14 UTC

that's your statement

2019-02-13 02:47:20 UTC

we're taking about harassment

2019-02-13 02:47:26 UTC

from a legal perspective?

2019-02-13 02:47:29 UTC

or a general one

2019-02-13 02:47:29 UTC

If you're harassing someone to the point they cry

2019-02-13 02:47:50 UTC

If you won't lay off someone and keep talking to them until they cry, your speech has become harassment

2019-02-13 02:47:57 UTC

because your speech is causing the situation

2019-02-13 02:47:59 UTC

from a legal perspective?

2019-02-13 02:48:02 UTC

It's not the words themselves that are bad

2019-02-13 02:48:04 UTC

what situation are you talking about

2019-02-13 02:48:05 UTC

It's the act of harassing that is

2019-02-13 02:48:19 UTC

*are we talking about the law or just the word harassment*

2019-02-13 02:48:58 UTC

Since we're discussing freedom of speech and what is or isn't protected, we should refer to the legal definition

2019-02-13 02:49:04 UTC

US?

2019-02-13 02:49:06 UTC

yes

2019-02-13 02:49:10 UTC

We were talking about US politics

2019-02-13 02:49:17 UTC

I figured, just clarifying

2019-02-13 02:49:18 UTC

Free speech is the idea that you are allowed to say whatever the hell you want to even if its offensive or not. You can say what you want. But you cannot say fire in a crowded theater. There is a difference between a call to action, and free speech. If you tell someone to kill themselves that is a call to action. If you tell someone to kill someone else that is a call to action. If you threaten someone that is a call to action. A call to action is illegal.

2019-02-13 02:49:23 UTC

It started with a discussion on whether or not the covington kids smear was propaganda

2019-02-13 02:49:43 UTC

I say that it was left wing propaganda promoting the idea that it's okay to deplatform and censor people based on their ideas.

2019-02-13 02:49:59 UTC

I say that freedom of speech should be protected, and we shouldn't deplatform people over their ideas

2019-02-13 02:50:15 UTC

Then it turned into when is something free speech or when is it harassment

2019-02-13 02:50:26 UTC

well if it makes them cry that's harassment, which may or may not be protected under state law

2019-02-13 02:50:28 UTC

remember

2019-02-13 02:50:30 UTC

"If you're making someone cry, that's harassment"
