The US flag itself still stands for liberty and justice for all.

However, a flag is just a flag.

Burning it would be like burning a Bible. Your intentions maybe wrong, but in the end you're not really doing any harm.

It is incredibly offensive and disgusting towards patriotic Americans if you burn the American flag. This is simply because of the symbolism, which you cannot detach from the object itself, by it's very nature.

People only burn flags to be offensive, and that is a borderline hate crime in my opinion if you consider that it is done with intent to upset people as much as possible.

The modern USA has no moral parentage from that of the Founding Fathers. Common political rituals do not unite incredibly diverse peoples.

Here we have many millions of people who have formed an attachment to a flag, which symbolizes something to them, if you burn the flag, you are offending and hurting these people.
